CR Planning: May 2015

Welcome to the Underground! As promised, this is a follow-up post for players who have been accepted into the game to discuss your characters' AU backgrounds with canonmates and other characters, and to establish pre-existing CR (character relations). Feel free to revise your character's history as appropriate to fit in with other characters in the game.

You can use this post to:

• Discuss your character's background history with other players and make changes where needed.
• Work out shared history with canonmates and build in cross-canon CR.
• Say what kind of CR you're looking for and reply to others to offer CR.
• Say hi to the members of your faction and begin discussing your in-game strategy.
• Start thinking about what territories you might want to make a claim on.

There will be a plotting post on the 18th where you can stake your territory claims for the opening month of the game, choose a prompt from a list of plots and start planning the events listed in the calendar.

Read the factions page to remind yourself who your allies and enemies are, then take a sneaky look at the territories map as it currently stands and have a think about your faction's goals. Do you want to make an aggressive grab for power? Sit tight and defend the territories you've already got? Play nice and build alliances with other factions? There's no right or wrong way to play: the tactics employed by your faction are completely up to you.

As before, this is a player-led discussion, but I'm happy to answer any questions. Happy planning, and I look forward to playing with everyone when the game opens!

Heiji

What I'm looking for: Friends for Heiji to hang out with (he'll probably keep quiet about the being a fae thing for now...). Heiji is a bit wary around werewolves, so that could be interesting. He likes ghosts as a general rule.

In the future, there are a few plot-related things I've been thinking about, including someone getting hold of Heiji's gem, which stores part of his power. At some point I'd also like one or more people to find out his true name, which he will not be telling most folks. He's also secretly pretty good with a biwa, but assumes no one in London is interested in listening/would think it was weird he plays a kind of old-fashioned instrument, so finding someone who might want to listen to that might be cool.

Heiji also enjoys talking about mysteries, forensics, how Osaka is literally the best place on the planet, and random facts about psychology, medicine, and so on. He's not a doctor, he just likes reading random crap. Also if anyone over like 50 or so who is supernatural wants to bitch about the good old days, that might be fun. He usually has to pretend he's 20 or something.

OH YEAH I almost forgot, I'd like to do a post where a couple people can end up blundering into the wrong alley at night and are confronted by a fae and it looks like they're about to be menaced, but instead Heiji just asks them Jeopardy questions or something and gives them fifty bucks 35 pounds if they're right.

Shared history: Heiji has a bit of CR from the test drive meme I'd be cool with carrying over to the game, IIRC with Clara and Stiles. If your character stopped by at Barnet, they might have met Heiji at his part-time job at Cafe Poirot.

If there are any Japanese characters around interested in working out a bit of shared history, that might be interesting, too!

Faction stuff: I think there are actually only two fae characters at the moment, but welcome to planning faction stuff. I know fae aren't really in the territory game at this point, and in terms of strategy, Heiji isn't currently the type of character who'd be super aggressive about territory grabs but whatever whatever let's plan.

I'd love to work out some commonality with their Japanese background, i.e. magical culture and "remember that one guy who tried x and then y happened". I'd even be game for them having run into one another way back, if you think that would be interesting.

Balem

Faction: Unseelie Court

CR Possibilities (shared or new):

• Any witches who may have summoned him before for any reason. Balem can be difficult to negotiate with and would usually demand some youth or years of servitude or another person or something like that, but he's really vain and has been known to accept nice expensive things in lieu of the other options as long as they're not asking anything too big of him.


• Characters interested in astronomy/star-based magic in general. If he likes you enough he might be willing to be a grumpy mentor.


• Anyone involved with the Other Realm in general.


• People who have had conflict with him in the past. He's pretty easy to pick a fight with.


• Anything really, if you can think of something else! His full app is here. Anyone he trusts and people who have summoned him or gotten his name from someone else can know him as Balem, anyone is free to know him by his nickname, Cephei.

Faction Claims: SO fae aren't on the faction map yet and he's the only Unseelie, but Balem is a jerk so I was thinking of having him waltz on into one of the unclaimed territories. Both because he's greedy and doesn't want all the non-fae to get too comfortable. Might have to wait for more fae to come in but he can at least start planning it.

I was thinking about how these guys might run into each other and in Japan there's kind of a tradition where you give stuff to your neighbors when you move in somewhere :|a.

So Heiji could come by at some point and give him some shiny trinket or something, if you like.

She probably doesn't rate high on her radar, but there's a good chance Balem might know the Widdowson name, even traded favors/protection with them for youth and shiny things on occasion, since they stay alive by making contracts with Fae. Probably no close association between these two, but a little bit of knowledge about each other.

Dandy

• Fellow sadist/murderous types.


• Fellow enthusiasts of film and theater. And showtunes.


• ENEMY-WISE, werewolves, hunters, and anyone who hates spoiled brats.


• Anyone he's fed off of in the past.

Faction Claims: Dandy himself isn't pursuing any factions right now because he's too busy bidding on old film reels on eBay and stuff like that. He'd be defensive of Bexley because that's where his mansion is and he doesn't want to move all his stuff.

I'd love some vampire vs werewolf action between Dandy and Eren. Maybe it could be a "we've known each other for a while, but can't seem to kill the other" type of thing. Or new CR works too! I've never seen American Horror Story, but Dandy's character seems like a ton of fun, so I'd be up for whatever.

• I have no canonmates and I must scream.


• Before she died she was a medium for hire (or low-cost spells, if you knew how to ask), if your character needed to contact one for whatever reason


• Still really sold on her being a murder victim (like in canon), unfortunately we don't really have anyone who'd prompt a revenge plot, sobs.


• If you'd also know her based off her history, hmu I'm down for anything (the tl;dr is she's a witch who fell into a bad crowd, and. her mother possibly works for a supernatural crime boss overseas thanks homestuck)


• Open to pretty much every kind of CR I'll be honest.


• She also had CR with Clara and Willard on the tdm/cr post - would you two be down for keeping that? ouo

Faction Claims: midnight has no territories and it makes me sad Despite being... active-ish in Circle happenings before her death, as a ghost she doesn't really care. whoops. But hey - if you have positive CR with her, you can probably rope her into helping your cause out of sheer boredom. win/win

Faction Claims: Will is the laziest of cats, HOWEVER he can be convinced to help out other Hillingdon members if they can out-logic him in a verbal fist fight. He can also be caught via owed favors to be used like a one-use Problem Fixer by any other faction, but he doesn't owe anyone jack right now.

So fae are supposed to avoid outcast fae, but maybe we could set it up so our characters meet without both of them strictly knowing who the other one is? I assume that if Willard's a mystery writer, Heiji would be interested in meeting him and it would be amusingly awkward to find out later that he's supposed to be avoiding... Willard...

Looking for:

• A JOB - I was thinking about giving Eren a part-time job of some sort. If anyone needs an employee/coworker... If I don't get any bites, I'll probably just make something up for him on my own, but it'd be fun to work with someone, you know?


• Vampire CR - negative CR is always fun (I love playing out fight scenes!), but Eren's so convinced that all vampires are evil that it might also be interesting for him to meet a vamp that makes him start questioning that black and white worldview of his.


• Parental figure type people - Eren's relationship with his dad is shaky, so it'd be nice to have someone Eren can honestly look up to. I'm a sucker for the "makeshift family" trope.


• Friends his own age - Eren probably doesn't have many, but the few he does can expect extreme loyalty.


• Moonlight Jewelry - Someone who can make it or has the connections to secure some.


• Werewolf shenanigans


• Anything - Just... anything.

Moonlight jewelry commissions are right up Ginko's alley. He's a reluctant parental type with "all life is precious" worldview in tow, too, so if they meet on a witch-for-hire basis, that might go somewhere interesting!

Faction/Role: Hillingdon Clan/Hunter

CR ideas!
-Clint has been in town for a week or so, so he'll probably have met other members of the Hillingdon Clan just from hanging out at their super secret clubhouse
-Before arriving in London, he operated out of the American Midwest (insert Winchester reference here) for over a decade, so if your character is from that region and dealt in supernatural shenanigans, there's a chance they might have bumped into each other.
-He'll occasionally be hanging around whatever archery range is nearest the Hillingdon mansion, and also archery shops and the gym. Guess I should have put those in the world-building section haha.
-If your character is interested in learning to shoot, he'd be open to giving a few lessons.
-Clint has no actual job aside from hunting, as he sold his house and property last year and has just been kind of coasting along on his savings. He'll get one in the future once his funds run out. Probably open up his own archery shop--customizations and classes and such.
-Please point him in the direction of the best pizza places around town, he neeeeds them.

Faction stuff!
Clint isn't really going to be into politics right off the bat, but he'll definitely defend Hillingdon Clan if anybody tries to take them out, and he'll stand with them if they decide to go anywhere. If the Islington Nest tries to take over any territory, he might try to stand against them just on principle because he h8s vampires.

Hmm, a few possibilities... Heiji would be interested in archery, he's going to make it his business to find the best pizza places (and Italian joints, and sandwich shops, and...) around town, and he does speak English with an American accent and know more in general about America than England. So I'm not sure how observant Clint is, but that could be interesting, too.

Nancy

CR Ideas:
-Nancy grew up here in London, so it's likely she'd have met some characters. She was raised by your typical creepy, Fae, black-market fence, so if you wanted to get some sort of unsavory object, he was the person to go to, so that's another possibility for a run-in. Or if you had a bad experience with Fagin, that could propel some CR.

-People that would have fed off of her. She's a blood worker, so she's a meal for hire. Likewise, she is a prostitute, if your character is the type to hire one, be my guest.

-Both negative and positive cr is a++

-Mark? Has she stolen something from you? You probably didn't catch her. But.

-Nancy spends most of her time hanging at supernatural bars.

-Anyone wanna help her actually harness her powers? Or help facilitate an eventual faction change?

-I'm really up for anything and everything, tbh.

Faction Stuff: WELL Circle Midnight doesn't actually have any territories. Whoops. She's not really involved in the politics. She lives in Bexley, and spends a lot of time in Lewisham, however.

- ex-associates, bodyguards, boyfriends. Basically people that used to work with Kenzi and have stopped for their own reasons

- Lawful good types trying to catch her. I'd love to have law enforcement tracking her down, trying to find her and coming close a la Javert. Give me your obsessives

- Fellow witches in Circle Midnight and every other species around, Kenzi is not picky about what her friends are!

- Flirting options (exclusively male unfortunately) and potential love interests?

- Anyone who wants to help her improve her magic?

- Clients!

- Any neg or pos CR.

Faction Stuff: So Kenzi herself isn't particularly motivated in politics and gaining ground, but if you are her friend and YOU are - she'll help you out no matter what. She spends a lot of time in Hounslow.

ALSO I was wondering - what are the chances of homegirl hooking Derek up with a piece of moonlight jewellery? He'd be way more likely to start off looking for it from her!

CR possibilities:
* Circle Midnight people! "Widdowson" is an old name in the world, especially where dark magic is concerned, so it's very possible for people to know the family by reputation even if they've never met.
* Society. Abigail is a socialite, so she flits about parties and charities. In charities, she's usually invited because of how much she donates. In parties, she is the 'oddity.' She gets invited so people can boast about it.
* Random. Seriously, the girl needs friends. She's never really been out in the world before, so she's got a flat in London rather than constantly spending her time in Geap Manor.
* Fae. The Widdowsons keep themselves alive and fertile by making deals with Fae, so the name might not be unheard of among some of those circles.


Territory: Circle Midnight doesn't actually have a territory yet, but Abigail will probably get the idea pretty quickly to make a proper coven location, once she runs into non-family Midnighters. Most likely, she'll want to look at Enfield, since that's where her family home is, and, therefore, feels most like homefield advantage to her.

DEREK HALE.

Info: MAIN | PERMISSIONS
Ideas/possibilities:

• The murder of Derek's sister is fair game in the supernatural community, and some may also have some knowledge of the Hale name referring to a very old werewolf line, just as a head's up!
  
• Tangentially, Derek has put feelers out to try and find information on aforementioned murder, so if your character would respond to these in any fashion that can be a starting point.
  
• Usually, he'd spend most of his time in werewolf territory, but his will to learn has him exploring the city more fully.
  
• Conflict! Whilst Derek hasn't made any real enemies of his own yet, it's easily done when you're as volatile and vicious as he is. The hackles are up mostly against vampires, but hunters that go after werewolves are also on the list. Negative CR is beyond welcome seriously.
  
• Similarly, he's very protective of his pack's turf. If he finds supernatural entities of any form hanging around, he's likely to at least confront them.
  
• People to either needle at him or just give him knowing nods in an amiable way! Friend is too strong a word for now but I'd love some positive relationships to build on. People he'll look out for, perhaps in spite of himself, basically.
  
• Whether or not we played it out on the TDM, if there's some kind of base CR you'd like to run with please hit me up with it I'm delighted to plot it out.
  
• Seriously though negative or positive gimme it gimme it all. I'm hungry like the wolf.

Faction: As Derek's currently obsessed with his own agenda, he's less interested in faction-wide movements. He'd always be up for more territory though, and he's not about to start playing nice with other groups. Except for Kenzi.

Hmm, idk how far along Derek is in his investigation, but if he ever needs help looking into the murder, Heiji would be delighted to help!

...Also Heiji will be wandering anywhere and everywhere, so he's likely to mosey into Derek's space someday don't tell him where he can't go

Since Stiles has only just very recently arrived in London, I don’t think he’ll have much in the way of pre-existing CR. I’m assuming threads on the TDM are game-canon unless told otherwise!

NEW CR:

• A CLOSE MALE FRIEND to fill the gaping hole in his heart that is in the shape of Scott McCall, his heterosexual life partner. Stiles has never spent this much time apart from Scott and is going to be really homesick for his bro. While he’ll definitely be texting/calling/skyping with Scott off-screen, I think Stiles could really benefit from a new guy friend! I’d say a new gal friend too, but Stiles’ hormones might complicate things.

• SOMEONE TO TRAIN HIM in the ways of not getting his ass kicked around by the supernatural. Be his Mr. Miyagi!! Stiles is doomed to be a fairly poor student, but I imagine once he gets an actual taste of how dangerous the Underground is, he’ll sober up and put more effort into learning. He’ll never be a badass, let’s be real, but at least he’ll better be able to defend himself.

• JOB OPPORTUNITIES to bring home the bacon. Originally planned on having Stiles work for Handsome Jack on the pre-game CR meme, but I’m not sure if the player is still around (BABY COME BACK). So if your character has a need for a delivery boy or a test subject or a…idk, snooping snooper who snoops, we should talk!! (Stiles will be helping Kenzi out with her black market venue, but he’s always up for more shit to do.)

• VAMPIRE FEEDER because damn who doesn’t want some of that tasty, tasty human blood. Stiles could be potentially wheedled into being a voluntary donor if the cards were played right, but also feel free to plot out less consensual blood sucking.

• EVERYTHING ELSE! I will take it all. Negative CR. Positive CR. Weirdly unsure CR. Stiles will be running around all over the place, so it’s totally possible that he’d venture into your character’s faction territory. If you’re interested in CR with Stiles, we can absolutely make it happen.

Faction Claims: Right now, this definitely is not something he’s going to care about. In the future though, I can see him developing an interest in helping certain factions win territories or interfering with others.

HI STILES. I'm cool with using the TDM as game canon (although maybe we should replace the mention of the Holmes museum with an amorphous non-Holmes detective).

If he wants, Heiji would be happy to teach him some kendo since I think you mentioned his default weapon was a baseball bat and actually you use a two-handed sword for that. But in any case, I had a lot of fun in the TDM and I'm sure there'll be plenty of opportunities to hang out. Maybe Stiles can help fill out Heiji's currently empty phone contact list...

Henry's pretty new back to London, having gotten his position due to very old connections that he's just now figured out he has, so there won't be a lot of previous CR. Except for one case that will be mentioned below!
Students: Henry is a senior instructor at Redbright Institute, so there will always be students. I don't know if anyone fits this category yet, but I am totally willing to chat with anyone who does.
Fellow faculty: Again, instructor, so he has constant contact with others at Redbright.
Clients/Ghosts: Henry is a medium as well, capable of seeing spirits, talking to the dead, and helping them move on when they can/want to. Because of this, either ghosts he can talk to or people who have ghost problems are awesome.
Patients: Henry will also be moonlighting as a doctor for both humans and supernatural creatures, operating a small clinic.
Past CR: Henry is an immortal who knows very little about supernatural creatures. Because of this, the vampires and fae and other such creatures might have come across him in the US, France, Italy, or the UK when he's been there before.
General: Henry does like to get out and about, so there's a good chance of him meeting almost anyone.
Faction claims:
Henry isn't going to be worried about territory too much, since Redbright is pretty established and settled. It might change as things start to change, but that's later.

Okay so realtalk, I'm super bummed that Forever isn't getting a season 2.

That being said, I would like CR between these two, and Clint needing stitches or something seems like the best way to go haha. He could come into Henry's clinic with some kind of injury that was obviously supernatural in nature and make up some absurd story to try and lie about it.

• I GOT EVERYTHING I WANTED so with that said


• as said before, you can take his class! he's gonna be teaching the supernatural laws, which will most likely be an optional class if i did my research right.


• apollo will be a defence attorney as his "day job", so if you have been in trouble with the law, he probably knows you. you probably know him, too.


• likewise, he could hire people to help him around the office! he has two important jobs he MUST be present for so he is a busy man and keeping the office tidy would take a chunk out of his time.


• i also love negative cr, but considering he's from redbright, he has to welcome you to school if you want to go. BUT he has recently moved from LA, california so werewolves and vampires would probably make him nervous.

SUMMARY;; Clara has been around for a long time in London having moved there in her youth with her husband and is currently haunting a coffeeshop located in Harrow since it used to be her old apartment building. She's made a few number of friends along the way and I'm always up for her having more or a variety to her relationship roster to push her beyond her boundaries!

→ OLD CONNECTIONS because like I said she's been around for a looong time since she moved to London around the late 1960s - early 1970s. She would have had the ability to move beyond her haunting spot by the mid 2000s and began to really explore what's out there. I can see her making friends with mediums who wish her to do no harm or metahumans who aren't scared of her presence and even a fae or two if they so desire.

→ SPYING POTENTIAL because I love the idea of a ghostly little old granny taking notes of a conversation and relaying the information to her handler and then going, 'And they didn't wash their hands when they came out of the stall. Just headed straight back to the table and touched the tea. I never.' But seriously -- I would love for her to be involved in the game and her being a spy for a faction would be a good way for her to enter. Since she's a ghost, she's invisible to most people and she has a great memory meaning she can remember a lot of stuff to give back to people. This can be either with her consent, for Redbright's sake or for her friends, or against her will, someone threatening to hurt her loved ones or binding her to do their bidding. I'm up for it going either way!

→ POWER SOURCE … because this is an alternative of having her involved in the game too. If a possibly mean one. Fae and witches can use ghosts for their rituals and stuff like that, right? Maybe Clara can be a willing/very unwilling one to do this sort of stuff long as it doesn't take her out of the game. Like. The ritual/feeding drains her heavily of her energy so they become strong but in turn it makes her weak/volatile/unable to control her powers long after. I would be pumped if we could enter this route because it'll be something she would never imagine herself doing and force her to push pass her comfort zones if she wants to hold herself together for this. Again, I can see her doing this for someone she holds dear or if someone she holds dear is in danger.

→ TOO SPOOKY because sometimes Clara has bad days and she loses control of her powers when she's in the coffeeshop, causing the lightbulbs to go out and machines to break and things like that. Anyone is welcomed to investigate these matters since this is kind of a regular happening at her shop and the shop itself has a reputation of being haunted ever since it opened.

→ GHOSTLY GUARD because she's protective of her few loved ones left. As a result, she can have a bad habit of fussing over those she has a connection with. So I can totally see her trailing after them to make sure they get to their destination safely sometimes. Maybe there can be shenanigans where she finds out the person she cares for isn't really who they claim to be or she finds them doing something dangerous, they need help so she swoops in but reveals herself? She can do it to a complete stranger too! Finding them in a dangerous part of London and wanting to be sure they're safe.

→ FRIEND OF A FRIEND because speaking of her few loved ones left, she has a granddaughter named Magra Seville going to Redbright Institute since she's a metahuman. Clara has a habit of trailing after Magra to school on some days to make sure she's studying and staying out of trouble. Things like that. I'm up for people part of the school, faculty or students, spotting her one day as she hangs around the hallways during class hours and going, 'Excuse me ma'am you're not supposed to be here aaaaah where did you go?' and try to unravel the mystery of the old lady? It can be a bit of a mystery angle here if you want. Digging for information about her past and tracking her haunting spot down and coaxing her out.

→ AND EVERYTHING ELSE HERE I'm so up for her having positive CR to negative CR. Clara isn't really part of a faction, heavily affiliated with Redbright but what can she really do about that, so she merrily floats around minding her own business so I can see her getting involved in things by accident or so.

Ooh, I could see Ginko being either called in/pinged to investigate the coffee shop. His usual way of dealing with situations like that is to make up a cover story to set the normals at ease, then independently determine if the ghost is benign or a nasty one in need of being shown the door, as it were.

She's in charge of the Redbright Institute and Circle Daybreak, so if you're a member of those factions then she will likely have an influence on you even if it's not direct. Also if you're Circle Midnight then it's basically her fault that you have to live in hiding.

ALSO just to give everyone a heads-up, since the game hasn't opened yet and I know you guys will be wondering how this whole territory war thing will work in practice... I will be leading a territory claim with Sylvia here in the first month of the game. (In the future all territory claims will be player-led.)

The Redbright Institute is going to claim Barnet.

There will be more info in the upcoming plotting post, so sit tight! In the meantime, here's a brief outline of Sylvia's overall strategy for the Redbright Institute:

• Extend the green safe zone to the north of London
• Take over disputed territories and make them peaceful
• Stamp out dark magic completely
• Eventually, negotiate with the vampires and werewolves to broker a peace agreement
• Support Circle Daybreak and Night Council where possible

And her strategy for Circle Daybreak:

• Make a slow expansion to gradually dominate the entire south of London
• Avoid pissing off the vampires unless they get aggressive
• Support Redbright Institute and Night Council where possible
• Aggressively squash any attempts by Circle Midnight to gain territory

City-wide domination, folks. Only you can stop her.

I would love to get a minor confrontation with Sylvia to spur Abby into the political action I think she'll take to. Basically an attempt at talking and "but we're all the same" and it just... going badly.

Shared History: He did grow up in a completely non-magical and average orphanage, so if your character happened to as well then hit me up! They could've definitely crossed paths. Furthermore, Sasuke works at a hardware store. If you're a regular with a ghost haunting their plumbing or your hobby is building bombs lawn chairs, we have another link.

Faction Info: Sasuke is newly coming into the Hillingdon Clan and has zero established presence. In fact, he's only recently become aware of the supernatural world and realized he isn't alone with his powers. Any help figuring them out and acclimating to this new environment would be amazing.

Sought CR: As mentioned above, help getting used to the supernatural world would be great. Help with his powers -- basic fire and electricity mojo, generally speaking -- would be even better. I'm completely open to all types of plotting and plan to have him skulking around the Hillingdon Clan and the Redbright Institute in nearly equal measure. Oh man, Sasuke has fire and lightning powers, I totally forgot about that. Those are Heiji's specialties, so he might be able to help Sasuke out there.
