January 2017 Plotting Post

January 2017
Happy New Year, everyone, and here is your January plotting post! You can make use of the information here to plot what your character will be doing in the next month. We've got our next How's My Driving post in mid-January, so look out for that. But the big event of the month is another election! See below for more details.

Check out the calendar for a quick summary of when things are happening. You can also check the game timeline to see what has happened in the game so far.

Factions
The holidays are a time of forgiveness and it seems that the Night Council has taken that message to heart. Following discussions with key leaders in the Islington Nest, they have agreed to restore the Vampire Representative seat and to guarantee vampires a place on the Night Council – with a caveat that they reserve the right to reject any Vampire Representative they believe to be a disruptive force.

Given that all five seats on the Council are filled, the future shape of the Night Council has not yet been decided. The Council have said they will make an announcement once the Vampire Representative has been elected, but word on the grapevine is that Dee Absin, the Treasurer, will lose her seat.

Meanwhile, the Islington Nest faces an unprecedented event: an election. An actual democratic election. For the first time in their history, the vampires of London and allies of the Islington Nest will vote for a candidate to represent them. The nominations will be announced at the end of December and they are as follows:

• Jean-Claude, Duke of London Central
• Cesare Borgia, Marquess of Islington
• John Cooper, Marquess of Hackney

Campaigning will take place in early January, leading up to the election itself which will take place 19th January.

Of course, not everyone in London is pleased at this turn of events. The East End Pack's leader Katherine Moore is enraged at what she sees as the belittling of her people in favour of the vampires who have been running amok across the city. In January, she will make a hard declaration that any vampires found in East End territory will not only be driven out, but must be hunted down and killed. There is to be no mercy.

Similarly, several shapeshifters and hunters within the Hillingdon Clan will make it their business to hunt down as many vampires as possible. They know that once the Vampire Representative rejoins the Council, it will only be a matter of time before the Islington Nest's protection against hunters is restored. Best to take out as many as they can while they still can.

Territories
There were no territory changes in December which means that Circle Daybreak and Islington Nest remain the joint top factions, with seven territories each. See the Territories page for more information.

If your faction would like to claim a new territory, please comment to the appropriate thread. Players will then have three days from the date and time of the initial claim to sign up for the conflict. Anyone can sign up, but please only volunteer your character if they are a member of a faction involved in the conflict or they have IC reasons to actively help out. Please do not volunteer if you won't be able to participate in the plot.

If the outcome of the conflict is not already guaranteed, I will then look at the sign-ups list to calculate which faction will emerge victorious. It is up to players to plan and play out the actual conflict itself. If you comment to claim a territory, then you should also take the lead in planning and organizing it.

Minions
The following lucky minions will be promoted this month:
Theodore Lameiux | Vampire, Islington Nest | Level 1
‣ A cad from the 17th century who still hasn't learned the word "no". Always down for a party.

Nemed | Fae, Unseelie Court | Level 1
‣ A millennia-old warrior who's always going on about his lineage. No one cares.
These minions will decide to leave town this month:
Connor Walsh | Werewolf, East End Pack | Level 2
‣ A law student who was turned after being bitten by another werewolf.

Kyle Sutton | Human, Hillingdon Clan | Level 1
‣ An ex-soldier turned vampire hunter, he first encountered the supernatural when working for the US military.

Xanthe Blushe | Vampire, Islington Nest | Level 1
‣ A dancer-cum-femme fatale in the West End. Has a tendency towards luring her victims from the stage door.

Camila Latoracca | Vampire, Islington Nest | Level 1
‣ Newly turned vampire. It's a lot more boring than she thought it would be. She's still on the hunt to find out where all the cool vamps are.
And these less fortunate minions will sadly die this month:
Edwin Lloyd | Vampire, Islington Nest | Level 2
‣ A banker who's managed Islington Nest's assets since the 1830s. Nobody really likes him, but they keep him around because they can't be bothered to learn how to do it themselves.
Factions may decide how and when their minions die, leave town or receive a promotion. Feel free to work these developments into any of this month's plots.

Events
3rd-18th January – VAMPIRE REPRESENTATIVE ELECTION CAMPAIGN. It's an historic month for London vampires as for the first time ever they will be taking part in a democratic election to choose the new Vampire Representative who will join the Night Council. For the first two weeks of the month, the three candidates will be campaigning to win vampire votes.

12th January – FULL MOON. Werewolves, it's that time of the month! Will you chain yourself up or spend the night in a cage? Roam wild in the London parks? Or perhaps find a witch to make you a wolfsbane potion. Whatever you choose, better be prepared.

19th January – VAMPIRE REPRESENTATIVE ELECTION. On election day, vampires and members of the Islington Nest (including those who aren't vampires) will vote to choose their Representative. Polling stations will be set up in Islington Nest and Night Council territories, and are managed entirely by the Night Council (no vampires) to ensure that the vote is fair and unbiased.

20th January – VAMPIRE REPRESENTATIVE ELECTION RESULTS. The results will be announced at the Night Council headquarters and streamed live online for the entire supernatural community. There will be an OOC mod post to announce the results which will be decided by RNG.

22nd January – THE NIGHT TRAIN.* The leaders of the Night Council will be making their annual introduction to the supernatural community – aboard a train that will make stops in every borough with a significant supernatural presence. Hop on and off whenever you like: this event is designed to be open to all. (Though for some reason the train won't be passing through East End or Seelie/Unseelie territory...)

28th January – CHINESE NEW YEAR. It's the Year of the Rooster! Celebrate in style with parades and fireworks in the centre of London.

*There will be a mod-posted log for this event.

Plots
The following prompts are up for grabs this month:
1) There is a bounty on a rogue shapeshifter who has been attacking vampires. Turns out it's actually a fae. Reward: £800
2) A mysterious object is causing your powers to increase. It's a black orb, and it amplifies magic but also causes sickness, disturbing visions, paranoia and heightened emotions. – Claimed by Avis
3) You receive a chain letter that curses anyone who reads it, turning them blind. The only way to break the curse is to find the person who originally created it.
4) You accidentally offend a fae and are turned into an animal. Now you just need to figure out how to break the spell... – Claimed by Jack

About plots and events
• You may claim one plot prompt per month.
• You can also run your own plots based on the events listed above, or create your own.
• If you claim a plot, then you also volunteer to take the lead OOCly i.e. planning and organizing with other players, deciding on the outcome, setting a timeline etc.
• Once you have claimed a plot, you should introduce it ICly within the next month.
• Plots may not be entirely handwaved. You may handwave some of the plot, but you should play out at least part of it.
• Some plots will require NPCs as well as player characters to fill different roles. Please feel free to make up and play the NPCs yourselves.
• Plots are generally open-ended enough that you can make them big or small. It is up to the player who claims the plot to decide how they would like to handle it. You may want to do open sign-ups for your plot and specify whether there is a limit on how many characters can participate.
• Plots can also be self-contained or form part of an ongoing storyline. Again, it is your choice on how you would like to handle it.
• Please feel free to integrate plots and events or join plots up where appropriate. For example, if you claim a plot that involves a murder, why not choose an event during which the murder could happen? As long as the mod and other players are aware of your plans, I'm happy to accommodate.
Do not ask the mod to explain what the plot is and what your character should do or discover. That is up to you. These plot ideas are just that, ideas, and it is up to you to run with them and decide how and why these events are happening, what your characters are going to do about it, and what the consequences will be.
• You may ask the mod questions pertaining to game mythology, to check that what you are planning to do makes sense within the game world.
This list is not meant to be limiting in any way! Player plots are also very welcome.
• If you have an idea for a player plot, please feel free to comment here and see if there is any interest. Run it by the mod first if you're unsure of anything.

Plot claimed: 2) A mysterious object is causing your powers to increase. It's a black orb, and it amplifies magic but also causes sickness, disturbing visions, paranoia and heightened emotions.
Plot lead(s): Cesare Borgia. I really want Cesare to be an emotional, paranoid wreck for a month tbh.
When this will happen: Not entirely sure yet. Approx a couple weeks minimum, up to the whole month. It really depends who will let me thread this madness with them.

Plot claimed: 4) You accidentally offend a fae and are turned into an animal. Now you just need to figure out how to break the spell...
Plot lead(s): Jack w/ Lancelot!
When this will happen: Probably toward the end of the month!

The Artful Dodger!

[personal profile] knowntohisfriends 2016-12-28 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Just feel like offering up Dodger's services - he's a thief, a pickpocket, and connected to the hum of London which makes him very good at tailing people. He's not really 'big picture' guy though, so don't expect him to care too much about the politics of it all unless it directly affects him and his.

Joscelin

I'd love it if Joss could make more non-vampire CR. I know he doesn't play well with others, but it would be nice to extend his circle beyond the undead.

You got any plans for an open post after the birthday party's over with? Daryl can't really go to that but I wouldn't mind throwing him at more vamps just because.

Name: Jean-Claude ([personal profile] baisant)
Age: Old 629
Supports: Islington Nest, Night Council
Neutral: Fae*, Hillingdon*, Redbright, Circle Daybreak, East End Pack. (*Note: Although neutral with most factions, he had help from the fae and Hillingdon to kill Raymond and thus he would care if Islingtun took a stand against them)
Against: Technically, no one.
Campaign message: "Together, let us take this step forward, mes amis."
As far as Jean-Claude is concerned, vampires have spent enough time being the monsters of the supernatural world. His predecessors have all but made existing as a vampire forbidden. Jean-Claude is seeking to change that, to clean up their reputation, to gain them some respect they have lost, to install a strict set of rules that will please both the other supernaturals and vampires alike. This is starting with the choice to campaign for the spot, instead of demanding it be his as part of being the Duke of Central London in the Islington Nest. In order to coexist with the other factions one must cooperate with them as well, a fact with Jean-Claude will emphasize he has great experience in, given his age and recent climb to the top. He supports the idea of willing blood donors, he wants to stop the open hunting of all vampire-kind, though he is willing to condemn those who do not heed the rules and warnings of the law. Those who are willing and cooperative will be justly rewarded, a daylight ring being one of the main perks of a higher level in the Nest after all. He is of the opinion that vampires should respect their role in the community, rather than try to rule over it.

I am amending this to say that while JC is in the running ICly, I have decided for myself that I do not want him to be chosen to win. Please remove his name from the list when it comes down to rolling for the winner!

As for the IC reason for his defeat -- it would be the same as if he'd still been in the running but someone else had been chosen! Either they truly were the more popular candidate, or someone has intervened to make certain that it is that person/is not Jean-Claude himself, in the end.

Name: Cesare Borgia ([personal profile] longterm)
Age: 541
Supports: Vampires and whatever groups benefit them the most at the time. He's flexible.
Neutral: Every other thing that isn't vampires or Islington Nest.
Against: He's a majorly snobby about werewolves/East End Pack, but he'll work with them if they're considered important. He just doesn't think that will happen.
Campaign message:

Islington Nest is one of the oldest, most consistent factions in the city. Yet for some reason, our voice rarely gets heard. Banished from councils at the drop of a hat, demonized for our dietary requirements and denounced as corrupt and immoral at every opportunity, most seem to forget that we have got along with countless generations of other factions for centuries.

But it's that cordiality that has cost us. People have misread our goodwill as weakness, seen our cordiality as instability. But we are not unstable. We are powerful, consistent and strong.

It's about time that Islington Nest took the political foothold that it's deserved for centuries, acting as a pillar of the community instead of as shunned subset.

I, Cesare Borgia, am here to ensure that happens. As a seasoned diplomat, I have one goal: spread the power and put it back where it belongs, in the voice of the vampiric people. Diplomacy is important. The power of London should be distributed across its factions and leaders, not pinpointed into the few.

Now is an unprecedented opportunity. Let's seize it.

It's time people listened to their elders.
emotioneater: (Eyebrow raise)

[personal profile] emotioneater 2017-01-04 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Name: John Cooper ([personal profile] emotioneater)
Age: 235
Supports: Islington Nest, Redbright Institute, Night Council, and werewolves. What can he say, he likes the dumb pups.
Neutral: Circle Daybreak and Hillingdon.
Against: Fae. Too tricky to be trusted.
Campaign message: "Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle."

Cooper's greatest strength is that basically he's the everyman. He's not the most powerful or the strongest vampire in the Nest and he's gotten where he is by working hard. Having a little luck from time to time doesn't hurt. Vampires can seem very haughty, vain, and unapproachable, so he wants to dispel that image with his personality. A lot of people are angry at how the Nest has been run as of late, so he's looking to run an aggressive campaign designed to make the terrors of the night get back into the fold. He wants to show that vampires don't just view the rest of the supernatural world, especially humans, as a bunch of blood bags.

Also, little known fact that's about to become a lot more public: he's helped run a nest before in much of the same capacity. He was second in command in his former nest in America, so he's got the background to back up a lot of what he's saying.
