Submit your Alternative Views!
Alternative Views News is a London-based publisher that brings you the weekly supernatural news tabloid Worldly Weirdness Weekly. In an effort to combat declining sales and increasing irrelevancy in the age of the internet, this month they have decided to publish a special supplement. This special issue will be called Your Alternative Views and its content will be entirely comprised of articles written by the general supernatural community. Every contributor whose article is published will be entered into a prize draw to win a special mystery prize.
So what does that mean? It means you get to write some articles, make your characters' views heard and add fuel to the fire that is the supernatural gossip mill.
Submitting content
Content will be published under the following topic areas:
Letters You'll Never Send
200 words max, can be addressed to a specific person or anonymous.
Opinion Pieces
300 words max, the overarching theme is "The State of The Underground Today". Suggested topics include "Unpopular Opinions", "The Truth About...", and "Things That Need To Change". If you feel the need to go over 300 words, you can break your article down into sections with subheaders and each section will be counted as one comment.
Misc.
300 words max, anything goes! Local news, advice columns, confessions, gossip, reviews. Whatever you'd like to share with the supernatural community.
The news staff reserve the right to accept or reject articles as they see fit and to copy-edit articles as appropriate. Articles are not fact-checked and staff take no responsibility for the veracity of any sources.
You can submit content as written by your character (under their name, anonymously, or even under a false name if you prefer), or written by an NPC. For NPCs, take a look at the Rankings and Minions pages to see if anyone strikes your fancy, or make up a new character. The only NPCs you can't submit content on behalf of are those on the Elite list (and the editors won't let you submit anything under their name either. They're not suicidal). Of course, feel free to write about the Elite characters if you like, or about anyone else! Don't be shy, let us know what you really think.
All submissions should be published unless they're wildly inappropriate, in which case I'll let you know. If there are any that require major changes (e.g. if two players pick the same NPC to write content for but end up giving them completely opposite views), I will copy-edit them and let you know why they've been changed.
But what do I get out of it?
Good question. As mentioned above, there will be a special mystery prize for one contributor! This will be allocated at random to one of the player characters who submits an article. You can choose not to be entered into the prize draw if you prefer.
In addition, every piece of published content that you submit can be counted as five comments for the purposes of the next activity check. This includes any content that you submit on behalf of an NPC. You can choose which of your characters you want to allocate that piece of content to. For example, let's say you submitted one article from your character and one from an NPC. That would count as ten comments for activity check.
How to submit
Go here to submit your article! Comments are screened. You have until 16th October 12:00 GMT+1 to submit content.
All submissions will be collated and posted together on 16th October, and there will be the opportunity for characters to react and discuss amongst themselves. The prize will be announced at the same time.
Feel free to discuss ideas for content or ask questions in this post! The Alternative Views News staff are confident that Your Alternative Views will be an issue to remember.
