July 2016 Plotting Post

July 2016
Welcome to your July plotting post! You can make use of the information here to plot what your character will be doing in the next month.

This month will see a slightly extended Activity Check, as your mod will be on holiday from 3rd-6th July. Activity check will therefore close on 6th July and comments will be processed on 7th July when I return. Please do make sure to double check that you have filled in AC correctly, since you will not be notified of any mistakes until the 7th and correcting these will delay the results.

Check out the calendar for a quick summary of when things are happening. You can also check the game timeline to see what has happened in the game so far. It's been an eventful month!

Factions
Following the assassination of Millicent, ex-leader of the Islington Nest, the city's vampire problem continues to intensify. The new leader Raymond Harris has openly encouraged his vampires to attack both werewolves and shapeshifters, causing widespread fear and panic. The attacks included the murder of a Night Council Guardian, Simon O'Neill, prompting outrage from other members of the Night Council who have demanded that the Islington Nest stop this madness immediately.

The East End Pack is in disarray after losing its alpha James Memon, who left the city shortly after the emergence of Islington's new leader, causing great fear and resentment among the wolves. Meanwhile Circle Daybreak has lost one of its High Priests, Gilbert Norrell, who disappeared under suspicious circumstances. The official word is that he was attacked by dark magic in his own home, but there are rumours that Norrell himself caused his own undoing, proving him in the end a hypocrite.

In better shape is the Hillingdon Clan, which has rallied its forces and is looking to make a strong stand against the vampires. Always a loosely affiliated group of individuals more than a united force, there is now the opportunity for the shapeshifters and the hunters to work together to protect both each other and the rest of London.

Finally, having been preoccupied with in-fighting and election results for the past few months, the witch community are also responding to this new threat. Circle Daybreak held the territory of Southwark in defiance of the vampires who wanted to claim it back, and Sylvia Redbright will advocate for a hardline stance against the vampires. It seems Raymond has made himself a lot of enemies in a very short space of time.

Territories
Circle Daybreak held Southwark after the Islington Nest tried to take it back, proving unwilling to allow Islington to claim any further territory in the current circumstances.

Circle Daybreak is the most powerful faction in the city, with eight territories. See the Territories page for more information.

If your faction would like to claim a new territory, please comment to the appropriate thread. Players will then have three days from the date and time of the initial claim to sign up for the conflict. Anyone can sign up, but please only volunteer your character if they are a member of a faction involved in the conflict or they have IC reasons to actively help out. Please do not volunteer if you won't be able to participate in the plot.

If the outcome of the conflict is not already guaranteed, I will then look at the sign-ups list to calculate which faction will emerge victorious. It is up to players to plan and play out the actual conflict itself. If you comment to claim a territory, then you should also take the lead in planning and organizing it.

Minions
The following lucky minions will be promoted this month:
Jennifer Dunning | Human, Circle Midnight | Level 1
‣ The girlfriend of Peyton Haines, she has ambitions to be a 'Night Council liaison' for mortals.

Adriana Miller | Werewolf, East End Pack | Level 1
‣ Turned as the result of an accidental attack. Bitter and angry, she is always looking for a fight.

Lydia Samuels | Vampire, Islington Nest | Level 1
‣ A thoroughly modern flapper girl who likes to party all night and occasionally drain her boyfriends of more than just their cash. In the peak of her youth, she sought out a vampire to turn her so that she could keep her physique for her dancing for the rest of time.

Gener Valenzuela | Fae, Seelie Court | Level 1
‣ A very conventional fae who doesn't like change. Very dependable.

These minions will decide to leave town this month:
Estella Bradford | Witch, Circle Daybreak | Level 2
‣ A subdued young witch with an art for prophetic magic and communing with ghosts. Has a habit of talking strangely in the third person due to a childhood trauma involving the onset of her powers.

Sarah Roberts | Witch, Circle Daybreak | Level 2
‣ A skittish younger witch who can communicate with animals. Has a large number of cats.

Sigga | Fae, Unseelie Court | Level 2
‣ Sigvaldi is another version of a Banshee called a Bean Sidhe (Woman of the hills): she is drawn to death, and can sometimes predict it. She could be mistaken for a ghost with her long ragged pale hair and torn skirts. She uses wind and her own screams (which can cause a heart to temporarily stop and muscles to freeze for an instant) as her weapons.
Factions may decide how and when their minions die, leave town or receive a promotion. Feel free to work these developments into any of this month's plots.

Drops
The following characters will be leaving this month:
Abigail Widdowson | Circle Midnight | [personal profile] acrookedchild | Stays in town
Colin Coward | Islington Nest | [personal profile] occultdisciple | Left town 08/06/16
Their faction may decide the exact details of how characters leave and incorporate their exit into their plots if they wish.

Events
2nd-23rd July – HUNTING SEASON. Of course there's never a bad time for a hunt in the Other Realm, but in July they really make a festival of it. This year the Seelie king and queen have set their subjects a new challenge. Apparently inspired by a certain cult film reboot in the cinemas, they have decided to pursue ghosts in an effort to make London a more cheerful place. In the last week of the hunt they turn their attention to more usual game in the Other Realm, and finally to the legendary White Hart whose capture signals the start of a great feast. (Should a hunting party pass through into the mortal realm during this hunt, they will appear as drunken louts searching for a pub.) As the hunting season reaches its peak, the influence of the fae will be felt across supernatural communities in London. Hunting instincts will be heightened in all predatory types.

19th July – FULL MOON. Werewolves, it's that time of the month! Will you chain yourself up or spend the night in a cage? Roam wild in the London parks? Or perhaps find a witch to make you a wolfsbane potion. Whatever you choose, better be prepared.

22nd July – SCHOOL YEAR ENDS. School's out for the summer! Hope you did well in your exams. Teachers, this is your chance to sit back, relax, and... wait, what do you mean summer camp? Enjoy the break while you can, summer camp starts in August.

24th July – GRADUATION. It's graduation time for the latest batch of Redbright students. There will be a short ceremony for the graduates, taking place at the Institute, and then tea and cakes on the lawn. Family and friends are of course invited to attend.

Plots
The following prompts are up for grabs this month:
1) There is a bounty on a rogue human who has made a deal with a fae in return for mind control powers. Reward: £500
2) Young werewolves and shapeshifters are being captured and forced to fight each other in sadistic cage matches. – Claimed by Shea
3) A group of fae are having a hunting party in the Other Realm – and you're the prey.
4) An irate witch casts a truth spell that covers an entire borough for three days. During that time, no supernatural creature may tell a lie in that area.

About plots and events
• You may claim one plot prompt per month.
• You can also run your own plots based on the events listed above, or create your own.
• If you claim a plot, then you also volunteer to take the lead OOCly i.e. planning and organizing with other players, deciding on the outcome, setting a timeline etc.
• Once you have claimed a plot, you should introduce it ICly within the next month.
• Plots may not be entirely handwaved. You may handwave some of the plot, but you should play out at least part of it.
• Some plots will require NPCs as well as player characters to fill different roles. Please feel free to make up and play the NPCs yourselves.
• Plots are generally open-ended enough that you can make them big or small. It is up to the player who claims the plot to decide how they would like to handle it. You may want to do open sign-ups for your plot and specify whether there is a limit on how many characters can participate.
• Plots can also be self-contained or form part of an ongoing storyline. Again, it is your choice on how you would like to handle it.
• Please feel free to integrate plots and events or join plots up where appropriate. For example, if you claim a plot that involves a murder, why not choose an event during which the murder could happen? As long as the mod and other players are aware of your plans, I'm happy to accommodate.
Do not ask the mod to explain what the plot is and what your character should do or discover. That is up to you. These plot ideas are just that, ideas, and it is up to you to run with them and decide how and why these events are happening, what your characters are going to do about it, and what the consequences will be.
• You may ask the mod questions pertaining to game mythology, to check that what you are planning to do makes sense within the game world.
This list is not meant to be limiting in any way! Player plots are also very welcome.
• If you have an idea for a player plot, please feel free to comment here and see if there is any interest. Run it by the mod first if you're unsure of anything.

Sylvia please. Fae are people too.

Ooh, this is all v exciting. I think he'd definitely want a meeting to discuss what she intends to do about the vampire menace, but I may wait a little to see what Islington players wanna do before I let him get all gung-ho about pushing the vampires out

Raymond

considering how rashly she acted last time, Evie wants to wait to remove power from Raymond until they have a suitable candidate lined up to take his position JC. But she wants him out fast, because this is bad news bears. In the interest of the game, a delaying tactic and schism would be. the most fun.

Evie is willing to work with anyone to install a reasonable vampire (or vampire-sympathetic ally) into the Council.

So, delay, schism, Raymond off the council get someone else in there asap, maybe some vampires are trying to *restore* him to the seat?

[personal profile] reticence 2016-07-11 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)

going back to see if there's more to this, JC would be rather AGAINST the idea of them losing their seat on the night council. actually faolan would too for that matter, considering he's all about being "fair and equal" about representation and that would certainly not be a step in the right direction.

faolan would question whether it's good to have the head of a faction on the night council itself but then again SEE SYLVIA sooooo. again if she can do it why can't the vampires, and he would want to be fair.

JC on the other hand recognizes that the seat on the night council is just as if not more important than securing the position of leader, because it means having a say in the LAW -- SO. he'd definitely fight for that, and fight for his own potential to be there in turn /TL;DRS AT YOU SOME MORE

[personal profile] baisant 2016-07-11 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)

YEAH! he's probably keeping tabs on the different groupings of vampires in the city (as best he can from his position) and so when she lets him know about the smoke he could help narrow it down to that location, or rather a vampire associated with that location? and then work together from there or at least divide the work up between them in what areas they might be better suited for individually?

i should probably write faolan's report to sylvia sooner rather than later, do you mind if we work out what they find/uncover before we thread it out? how much will they find/how far will they go and all that?

[personal profile] falsify 2016-07-11 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
well he's not going to tell anyone he wants them off the Council, gosh. And of course if he can't have both, he recognises that putting JC on the throne is the better choice as far as his safety is concerned. And any attacks he makes on Islington territory would likely have to come before he even spoke to JC and Evie so...

I think I'm gonna have to sit down with a planner for a little while, excuse me.

[personal profile] brightwitch 2016-07-11 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Just confirming here that Simon passes on as of 10th July, so the case should be resolved enough by then to allow him to do that. Which probably means arresting the culprit. The other question is what happens to him. He could resist arrest and end up killed, or he could be brought in and imprisoned. The former is possibly more provocative, but either will work to annoy Raymond and show that Sylvia is serious about delivering justice for Islington's victims.

So it's all good PR for her, thumbs up!

SCHISM Islington-style

[personal profile] brightwitch 2016-07-11 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
So it looks as though most of Islington is in favour of a schism! I will leave this to Islington players to run, so feel free to use this thread to plot. Ideally, you will need a leader to rally around in opposition to Raymond, although before that you might want to try the "negotiate with Raymond" option which will fail but then at least you'll be able to say you tried before sticking the knife in.

As mentioned earlier, I can play Raymond if you want to thread anything involving him! Just let me know.

Night Council reaction

[personal profile] brightwitch 2016-07-11 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Since it looks like there will be a schism in Islington and therefore Raymond will be booted from the Night Council, here's a rundown of how the various NC Representatives are feeling right now:

Nora and Peter are heavily anti-vampire and see this as a great opportunity to kick vampires out of the Night Council for good. Nora will be most outspoken about this but as long as Peter sees the political winds blowing against the vampires, he will support her.

Sylvia is inclined to be more cautious (her reaction will heavily depend on who looks to be Raymond's successor) but she also sees this as an opportunity to add another Daybreak witch to the Night Council.

Yasmine really hates vampires right now because they're targeting her people, but she's also savvy enough to realise that getting rid of Islington's representative could increase the domination of the witches on the Night Council. She will support Islington keeping their seat if they can find a better leader, but she would also consider other options to broaden the Council.

Of course all of the representatives are open to bribes, and negotiations and shady backroom deals are all very possible. Let me know if you'd like to talk to any of them!

[personal profile] brightwitch 2016-07-11 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Here's the current outlook of the Night Council. At least some of them will be thinking about adding another Daybreak witch, but I should think Islington will be able to take their seat back if they're able to replace Raymond with a more stable leader. Cesare could certainly play a role in that.

[personal profile] brightwitch 2016-07-11 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
For reference, here's the current outlook of the Night Council!

Nora has promised to support fae representation and she is willing to do that, but currently she would be a lone voice so you'd need to persuade at least a couple more of the Representatives to support you. (Sylvia still thinks it's a terrible idea.)

[personal profile] brightwitch 2016-07-11 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, let me know if/when you'd like a meeting!

No problem!

That sounds good to me. Natasha passes along the info about the smoke, Faolan identifies the location and vampire(s?) identified with it? The two of them get pictures of the suspect for Simon to identify--Nat could do that part--and Faolan brings him in? Or they could go together for that?

Something like that?

SORRY FOR THE DELAY i'm still very much up for this waits patiently o3o

i've been working to get jc up the ranks in the vampires for a while now, and i would LOVE if it worked out with this plot that that's how it ended up happening in turn!

reticence: (Default)

[personal profile] reticence 2016-07-15 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)

in reaction to the announcement by sylvia, jc could definitely step up to the "negotiate with raymond" option. i'd certainly love a thread with raymond in order to do that! jc has been working his way into a position of authority so that he CAN have some sort of say in the matter, and doing his best to rally the other vampires behind him in the process (those that approve of his way of doing things at any rate)

as far as other islington involvement in this i know that jc has a few supporters in the rest of the pc vampires! while he hasn't FORMALLY announced his intentions, i'd imagine that his rise in the ranks is starting to gain some attention. while he's been around in the city for a century or so now, this is the first time he's really thrown himself into the mix like this. how much does sylvia know about him/how would she feel about him making this push?

and for the rest of islington (for anyone else reading this!), where do you/your characters stand on the potential of him stepping up as the pc leader to overthrow raymond? would you be alright with me continuing along this line?

baisant: (Default)

[personal profile] baisant 2016-07-15 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)

that all sounds good to me! we could just do multiple threads off of the post i've started already if that works for you? or other posts -- i'm pretty easy with however we want to structure this, i just really wanted to get something started which is why i put up a post to get the ball rolling in the first place. i definitely agree on the bringing in the perp at the end too -- would you want natasha there for that as well? i know that sylvia sanctioned her being involved so. they could take him down and bring him in together? faolan might need her help if they want to bring him in without killing him after all...

outstandingbalance: (pic#9477619)

[personal profile] outstandingbalance 2016-07-15 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm down with doing more than one thread in that post. That keeps it all in one place, nice and organized!

Natasha would want to be involved in getting the killer if it's possible. I wouldn't say she'd be pushy, but... she'd try to make it happen. If Faolan isn't a hard no, then together would be cool. Either on screen, or we could handwave it and play fallout or something.

I am pretty much here for whatever. XD

[personal profile] brightwitch 2016-07-15 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd be happy to do a thread with Raymond! Just drop me a link if you'd like to set something up.

Regarding Sylvia, she doesn't know much about JC other than the fact that he runs that awful strip club. (She does not approve.) She probably assumes that he's seedy vampire trash, so him rising through the ranks is just another sign of how far Islington has fallen. On this basis she would not be inclined to let him join the Night Council (a strip club owner as a Representative? Unacceptable!), but of course she's formed this opinion without having actually met him...

Cooper would be willing to support JC after an initial bout of which is he more loyal to, the concept of the nest or the person running it? But considering they can't have a lunatic running the show, he'll soon be set to rights regarding that.

So yeah, he'll step up and throw what weight he has behind JC, even if that means having to bully a few of those still willing to go one way or the other.
