April 2016 Plotting Post
April 2016
Here is your April plotting post! You can make use of the information here to plot what your character will be doing in the next month. The Night Council election campaign kicks off this month, so expect lots of activity related to the campaign. Even if you don't think your character would be involved in the election I recommend that you take a look, since the views of the winning candidates will shape the future of the Night Council and therefore affect all factions.
We've also got our next How's My Driving post coming up, and a brand new test drive meme at the end of the month. Check out the calendar for a quick summary of when things are happening.
Last but not least: the game has been open for almost a year now and a lot has happened in that time. Do you ever think that it might be useful to have a one-page summary of major events? Well, you're in luck. Check out the brand new game timeline which provides a quick reference for the story so far.
Factions
The bad blood between Circle Daybreak and the Seelie/Unseelie Court continues as the fae staged a hit-and-run attack on Lambeth, a territory held by Circle Daybreak.
One might argue that vampires are the fae's deadliest foes, however, as this month they made a second attempt to claim Seelie/Unseelie territory. The Islington Nest's attack on Bromley failed, thanks in part to a controversial decision made by Faolan, leader of the Hillingdon Clan, to defend the fae from the vampires. Is Hillingdon now choosing to ally with the fae?
Strange alliances are always possible in a time of political uncertainty, as proven when the Night Council announced that fae would no longer be forbidden to enter its territories, following a deal made by President Sylvia Redbright with two lords of the Seelie and Unseelie Court. In exchange for this concession, the fae agreed not to interfere in the upcoming election campaign.
Which brings us to the big news this month: the Night Council election campaign, which will take place throughout April. The candidates are battling it out to win four of the most powerful seats in the supernatural world: President, Vice President, Witch Representative and Shapeshifter/Meta Human Representative. Millicent, the Vampire Representative, sits backs and laughs. Democracy is such a quaint idea, isn't it?
Territories
There were two failed territory claims in the last month: the Seelie/Unseelie Court raided Lambeth, which Circle Daybreak successfully defended. At around the same time, the Seelie/Unseelie Court also held off an attack by the Islington Nest on Bromley.
Circle Daybreak is the most powerful faction in the city, with seven territories. See the Territories page for more information.
If your faction would like to claim a new territory, please comment to the appropriate thread. Players will then have three days from the date and time of the initial claim to sign up for the conflict. Anyone can sign up, but please only volunteer your character if they are a member of a faction involved in the conflict or they have IC reasons to actively help out. Please do not volunteer if you won't be able to participate in the plot.
If the outcome of the conflict is not already guaranteed, I will then look at the sign-ups list to calculate which faction will emerge victorious. It is up to players to plan and play out the actual conflict itself. If you comment to claim a territory, then you should also take the lead in planning and organizing it.
Minions
The following lucky minions will be promoted this month:
These minions will decide to leave town this month:
And these less fortunate minions will sadly die this month:
Factions may decide how and when their minions die, leave town or receive a promotion. Feel free to work these developments into any of this month's plots.
Drops
The following characters will be leaving this month:
Their faction may decide the exact details of how characters leave and incorporate their exit into their plots if they wish.
Events
Plots
The following prompts are up for grabs this month:
About plots and events
• You may claim one plot prompt per month.
• You can also run your own plots based on the events listed above, or create your own.
• If you claim a plot, then you also volunteer to take the lead OOCly i.e. planning and organizing with other players, deciding on the outcome, setting a timeline etc.
• Once you have claimed a plot, you should introduce it ICly within the next month.
• Plots may not be entirely handwaved. You may handwave some of the plot, but you should play out at least part of it.
• Some plots will require NPCs as well as player characters to fill different roles. Please feel free to make up and play the NPCs yourselves.
• Plots are generally open-ended enough that you can make them big or small. It is up to the player who claims the plot to decide how they would like to handle it. You may want to do open sign-ups for your plot and specify whether there is a limit on how many characters can participate.
• Plots can also be self-contained or form part of an ongoing storyline. Again, it is your choice on how you would like to handle it.
• Please feel free to integrate plots and events or join plots up where appropriate. For example, if you claim a plot that involves a murder, why not choose an event during which the murder could happen? As long as the mod and other players are aware of your plans, I'm happy to accommodate.
• Do not ask the mod to explain what the plot is and what your character should do or discover. That is up to you. These plot ideas are just that, ideas, and it is up to you to run with them and decide how and why these events are happening, what your characters are going to do about it, and what the consequences will be.
• You may ask the mod questions pertaining to game mythology, to check that what you are planning to do makes sense within the game world.
• This list is not meant to be limiting in any way! Player plots are also very welcome.
• If you have an idea for a player plot, please feel free to comment here and see if there is any interest. Run it by the mod first if you're unsure of anything.

Minions
The following lucky minions will be promoted this month:
Michelle Stafford | Human, East End Pack | Level 1
‣ Sensitive and kind. Does not like conflict and avoids doing things that will generate conflict. Not turned.
Thea Elliot | Shapeshifter, Hillingdon Clan | Level 1
‣ A graduate student at a local university. A panther shifter, she isn't overly fond of werewolves.
These minions will decide to leave town this month:
Mark Smith | Witch, Circle Daybreak | Level 1
‣ An outspoken young witch in his twenties who wants more male figures in Daybreak's higher ranks.
Mindy Patel | Witch, Circle Midnight | Level 2
‣ Recently returned from studying abroad, Mindy brings a keen understanding of international politics.
Tyrone Jensen | Werewolf, East End Pack | Level 1
‣ Serious, quiet, with loner tendencies. Enjoys solitude and tends to sit back and observe.
Reynard | Fae, Hillingdon Clan | Level 1
‣ A skilled thief and trickster. Often takes the form of a fox.
Liam O'Ryan | Vampire, Islington Nest | Level 2
‣ 120-year old Irish vampire, cheerful and brash. Occasionally picks pockets.
Eun Ae Sam | Fae, Seelie Court | Level 1
‣ A timid fae who blesses families with objects that will bring the children luck.
Celyn | Fae, Unseelie Court | Level 2
‣ Celyn is an Elf archer and expert at tracking and hunting. He moves quickly and can jump quite far. Light on his feet and very vain.
And these less fortunate minions will sadly die this month:
Alice Liddell | Witch, Circle Midnight | Level 1
‣ A teenager recovering from ten years spent in a psychiatric ward.
Thomas Hillis | Meta Human, Hillingdon Clan | Level 2
‣ Fresh-faced trainee hunter. Wants to make a difference in the Underground and all that rubbish.
Ronald | Fae, Hillingdon Clan | Level 1
‣ An exiled member of a Royal family, he wound up on the wrong side of an argument and tossed out on the streets. He probably has a more well-known name that they would know within the Seelie Court but these days he just goes by Ronald.
Shadow | Fae, Unseelie Court | Level 1
‣ A pixie who is, perhaps ironically, always illuminated in varying shades of neon light. Despite this, she's great at using her size to hide in nooks and crannies and overhear things people would rather not get out.
Factions may decide how and when their minions die, leave town or receive a promotion. Feel free to work these developments into any of this month's plots.
Drops
The following characters will be leaving this month:
Lagertha | Seelie Court |livesarejuststories | Leaves town 01/04/16
Lord Colin Coward | Islington Nest |occultdisciple | Leaves town 15/04/16
Their faction may decide the exact details of how characters leave and incorporate their exit into their plots if they wish.
Events
1st April-4th May – ELECTION CAMPAIGN. The Night Council candidates will be campaigning for your votes right up until the evening before the election. Expect eager volunteers to be knocking on your door with flyers, slogans and persuasive arguments, and community events aiming to reach out to the various factions. The candidates are always looking for more volunteers to campaign on their behalf.
2nd-17th April – SCHOOL HOLIDAY. It's the Easter holidays! Enjoy the break, don't misbehave.
15th-16th April – REDBRIGHT INSTITUTE OPEN DAYS.* The school is opening its doors for two days to any potential students, employees or interested members of the supernatural community who want to know more about the school's work. Of course, it just so happens that there's a giant banner reading "VOTE SYLVIA REDBRIGHT – A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR ALL" in the main hall and eager supporters giving out "I'M VOTING REDBRIGHT" badges, but you can walk past them if you like...
22nd April – FULL MOON. Werewolves, it's that time of the month! Will you chain yourself up or spend the night in a cage? Roam wild in the London parks? Or perhaps find a witch to make you a wolfsbane potion. Whatever you choose, better be prepared.
23rd April – ST GEORGE'S DAY. The patron saint of England, legend has it that St George slew a dragon. Consequently, both fae and shapeshifters congregate at their local dragon-themed pub to raise a toast in honour of the fallen dragon. Someone has to mourn the poor creature, after all.
24th April – LONDON MARATHON. One of the most popular sporting events in London, more than 30,000 people take part in the London marathon and there are always at least a few supernatural types among them. See if you can spot the cheaters.
29th April – NIGHT COUNCIL NOMINEES MEET & GREET.** The last informal opportunity to meet the Night Council nominees and hear their arguments before the election. Taking place in a town hall, it is traditionally a noisy and raucous event.
*There will be a mod-posted log for this event.
**This event will be incorporated into the upcoming test drive meme.
Plots
The following prompts are up for grabs this month:
1) There is a bounty on a werewolf who has been deliberately biting humans they feel have wronged them. Reward: £400
2) There are reports of a real-life Peter Pan: a child who can fly. Sadly it seems they ran (or flew) away two days ago. A fairy fort in their garden reveals a possible culprit. – Claimed by Autumn and Shea
3) You save a human using supernatural powers. First they start to stalk you. Then they threaten to reveal the existence of the supernatural world if you don't do what they want. – Claimed by Emily
4) A talking mouse (no, really) asks you to save her family, who are trapped in a part of the mortal realm where they cannot open a door back to the Other Realm. It's only a matter of time before the cat gets them.

QUESTIONS

So I know that virtual shenanigans of any kind can't count for AC and I'm definitely keeping that in mind while bringing this up, but even so I'd really like to run a plot together with Joey (who plays Oliver, resident tech nerd), to start an app-based community for the supernatural. I know in the rules you provided for making internet-based posts to the main comm as long as they're marked but we can't exactly go on twitter like #VoteForSylvia2016 since that would raise a lot of questions with the non-magical world.
The idea is that Oliver would develop an app that requires a specific password, to be communicated via word of mouth between actual supernatural types, that functions like twitter/plurk/yik yak/whatever and allows the group to actually have a way to communicate via the internet! It could be a great tie in to campaign season or even just spreading rumors/information about plots that are on-going now and in the future. (especially if there's an anon/yik-yak esque component; get that rumor mill spinning.)
Oliver is just one guy, though, so it could also be buggy in its initial stages, meaning it can function as its own plot device, too.
I'd imagine that it wouldn't be overused since no one would be getting AC for it, but I would love to be able to run it anyway to have it there kind of in the back of our pockets especially for mass communication stuff for plotting. Is that something you'd be okay with, or does it take away too much from the face-to-face nature of the game?
no subject
You'll need to make sure that you explain how it works and what kind of posts people can make (text/audio/video etc, private communication vs messaging everyone).
Last thing to give you some context: the supernatural community aren't dinosaurs; they do use social media and online channels to communicate, but obviously they have to be discreet about it. The Redbright Institute has its own internal email system, for example, and it's likely that witch covens would use their own private forums/channels to keep in touch. There isn't one app or network that everybody uses to talk to everybody else because it has all happened organically and people tend to stick with their own factions/friends/colleagues.
Re: QUESTIONS
But does London have a Supernatural News Paper that's for the Supernatural Community, but to all outside peoples look like a tabloid a la the Weekly World News? One designed to be, by all appearances, a lot of made up hokey shit due to how the stories are framed, but to the actual Supernatural community is a real source of news that they can go to without having to hide as much? I know they have their own online sources and the like, but before the rise of the internet they would have needed a print paper and the rise of tabloids would have been perfect for that sort of thing. So it could be something established long before online forums.
And if there isn't one already in game, could I suggest/add one to the setting page?

CLAIM A TERRITORY
Plot lead(s): Who is going to run this plot? This should be you, but you can also list any other players who will be co-running the plot with you.
Faction: The faction that is claiming the territory.
Territory claimed: The territory that you are making a move on. It must be adjacent to a territory that your faction already owns.
When this will happen: Give the timeline for your plot. This should be in the next month. If you haven't decided on an exact date yet, a rough approximation is fine.
And here is the same information in a handy form for you to fill out:
Once a claim has been posted, players should then reply to the comment and state the faction they are supporting to sign up. Please only sign up if you intend to participate in the plot.
Do not use this thread to start plotting. This thread is for claims and sign-ups only. Please start a separate thread or post to plot.

CR PLANNING
no subject
He probably won't be too interested in the Night Council elections (not being overly fond of the Night Council in general), but he'll be paying more attention than he has in the past (being more involved means he probably should).
Something around St. George's day would be interesting as well, possibly meeting any other shapeshifters.
VOTE NORRELL
With it will come: subtle smear campaigns, the publishing of a book (not truly written by him, but written with a lot of input to express his opinions) to coincide and get him more publicity, split reactions and one very scathing review of said book by a rival...
And, of course, drama.
With Norrell looking to be re-elected, and possibly to crack down more than ever (small rumours suggest he wants to make it illegal to aid and abet anyone breaking dark magic laws more categorically too, after the Bromley surprise), it seems a good time for people to try and put a stop to him -- before he does any more damage.
So, gather around folks! Your boss battle draws near!
You will need:
Means. Norrell is generally not a person to walk about on his own in dangerous places. He keeps to himself in his private house or in the Night Council headquarters as much as possible, so insider help may be required. He's also a powerful witch in his own right, and as much as Childermass may find him annoying he will do his best to protect him. Preferably, I would like Norrell to be vanished away in an uncertain manner which means he can re-appear one day if need be -- thus, trapped in a mirror realm, shadow realm, The Other Realm, something mysterious that makes him go away with it being ambiguous what happened and if he could have possibly survived. As flashy or non-flashy as the caster likes! His canon fate is Pillar of Darkness which is entirely dramatic and includes a Chaos of Ravens too. Personally I think a little drama could be fun!
Opportunity. A political event, perhaps? Public, if the caster wanted to make a point? Private, if someone wanted to trick him into inviting him somewhere and offering campaign help?
Planning. With the likelihood that more than one person wants this guy gone, there should be a good way to gather people together too! The more the merrier, as they say.
Contingency. Let us all bear in mind the consequences too! If he isn't assuredly dead you can't be tried for killing a witch, but attacking a Night Council member is definitely still bad. If you don't want to face a consequence be sure you plan carefully to not get caught!.
Time. It doesn't have to happen this month, of course, it could be late May even before the final strike! So plan time carefully, and bear in mind there may be curve balls along the way.
I will happily DM people investigating things to further this! If you want to try and break into his house, find his schedule, etc, I will help provide the log for you to try! I'd like to keep an element of chance so things are fun, so not everything is auto-win, but the end game is still getting him gone so I will on your side to help that happen!
Let the revolution begin.

Eames has made it his personal mission to Deal With Norrell (and my personal feeling is a Pillar of Darkness is perfect for making a point)
ofc he can't do much of anything until after the election owing to the deal he and Finnick made with Sylvia (and if Norrell's re-elected it may be nice to let him make himself even more hated for a little while.) So if anyone wants to collude with Eames on that front, those are things to keep in mind.
I'm happy to step aside if people want to do things sooner/some other way, or have Eames take a backseat in a way that doesn't technically break his word. Anything that gets rid of Norrell is something he wants to be a part of.

#FAE

Namely putting him through something terrible for Norrell only to have Norrell totally not care about his choices/sacrifices in the end. And possibly even fire him or something. Childermass isn't going to stick around in the city without him, so I would love for him to be involved in his downfall as well, in his own way?
no subject
But!! Yes I am 100% on board with this. I've no ideas right now for what could happen - though I'll certainly be thinking about it - but if you or anyone else comes up with anything I would love to get in on that
Let Your Voice Be Heard
So, Skip is getting roped into a political movement because of her aunt.
So! She's petitioning the Night Council (and will be trying to get signatures on a prompt of her post!) to give members of the East End pack a vote for the president and vice-president of the Night Council.
She's not angling for any representation or anything like that. Just to get a vote for those two spots.

Magical Terrorists in Britain Ripping Off the Middle Class
Once upon a time, a very helpful shapeshifter saved a very drunk person from falling onto the train tracks and being smashed to bits by the Central line. That very drunk person barely remembered the event the next day until they looked through the photos on their phone and spotted a video they'd recorded of the very helpful dog turning into a very naked man.
Now Simon is being stalked and blackmailed by a reporter from a prominent daily tabloid who is intent on exposing him--and the entire supernatural community--unless he gives into their demands.
This will all come to a head the middle of April, probably around the fifteenth. Who wants to help out?

He's got you, bro.
