March 2016 Plotting Post

March 2016
Here is your March plotting post! You can make use of the information here to plot what your character will be doing in the next month. An important event will be kicking off at the end of this month: nominations for the Night Council elections. There will be an OOC post nearer the time with more details.

In the meantime, check out the calendar for a quick summary of when things are happening!

Factions
Last month saw another big shake-up in the witch community, with Abigail Widdowson stepping forward to take her place as the new Maiden of all witches. A notorious and divisive figure best known for leading the first coven openly affiliated with Circle Midnight for several years, her appointment has not been without controversy. Rumours abound that those at the very top of the Night Council have been looking for ways to discredit her – but thus far her claim still stands.

The representatives of the Night Council will soon have other things on their mind, however, as nominations for the Night Council election take place at the end of this month. The incumbents are all automatically nominated unless they choose to step down, and will be preparing to win the hearts and minds of their voters in order to stay in power.

While changes are afoot in the world of politics, the changing of the seasons also means a shift in power for the Seelie and Unseelie Court. March is the month of the spring equinox, when the Seelie finally drive out the Unseelie north of the river, and declare that summer is on its way once again.

Territories
There were no changes in territories this month, the first time that the city has remained stable for almost a year.

Circle Daybreak is the most powerful faction in the city, with seven territories. See the Territories page for more information.

If your faction would like to claim a new territory, please comment to the appropriate thread. Players will then have three days from the date and time of the initial claim to sign up for the conflict. Anyone can sign up, but please only volunteer your character if they are a member of a faction involved in the conflict or they have IC reasons to actively help out. Please do not volunteer if you won't be able to participate in the plot.

If the outcome of the conflict is not already guaranteed, I will then look at the sign-ups list to calculate which faction will emerge victorious. It is up to players to plan and play out the actual conflict itself. If you comment to claim a territory, then you should also take the lead in planning and organizing it.

Minions
The following lucky minions will be promoted this month:
Sarah Roberts | Witch, Circle Daybreak | Level 1
‣ A skittish younger witch who can communicate with animals. Has a large number of cats.

Tobias Dalton | Witch, Circle Daybreak | Level 1
‣ A young male witch who specialises in barrier and disruption spells.

Thomas Hillis | Meta Human, Hillingdon Clan | Level 1
‣ Fresh-faced trainee hunter. Wants to make a difference in the Underground and all that rubbish.

Kristoff Danielson | Vampire, Unseelie Court | Level 1
‣ A vampire with a rather unfortunate addiction to fae blood. A curse keeps him from drinking the unwilling, so he helps the court in exchange for his hits.

Aeronwy Cadwalader | Fae, Unseelie Court | Level 1
‣ An ancient siren whose voice is powerful and haunting.

Agnes | Meta Human, Unseelie Court | Level 1
‣ She's almost certainly just a friendly old lady.

These minions will decide to leave town this month:
Rebecca Thomas | Witch, Circle Daybreak | Level 1
‣ A small witch who has an intense fear of werewolves and vampires.

Chloe Baxter | Human, Circle Midnight | Level 1
‣ A football-mad mother of three whose oldest daughter is a witch.

Michelle Baxter | Witch, Circle Midnight | Level 2
‣ A secondary school girl who has become politically active as a witch, "championing" the cause of Circle Midnight via neighbourhood petitions.

Kaydance Rivers | Witch, Circle Midnight | Level 1
‣ Desperate to get into a good school, Kay has turned to (secretly) trying to make deals with fae for academic success.

Carina Figueroa | Human, Hillingdon Clan | Level 1
‣ Witnessed the death of her son at the hands of a vampire and now harbours a grudge about as loaded as her illegal semi-automatic.

Christopher Zil | Meta Human, Redbright Institute | Level 2
‣ Member of the Outreach team. Powers include slowing and quickening time.

Hanh Vu | Fae, Seelie Court | Level 1
‣ An antisocial fae who loves puzzles.

And these less fortunate minions will sadly die this month:
Maria Foster | Witch, Circle Daybreak | Level 1
‣ A quiet witch focused on healing magic.

Paula Black | Witch, Circle Daybreak | Level 1
‣ A witch who specialises in fire due to an abject hate of the cold.

Mushira Ahmad | Human, Seelie Court | Level 1
‣ A frequent attendee of parties held by fae. She made a few too many deals and now works for the fae in return for a free decadent lifestyle.

Factions may decide how and when their minions die, leave town or receive a promotion. Feel free to work these developments into any of this month's plots.

Drops
The following characters will be leaving this month:
Lagertha | Seelie Court | [personal profile] livesarejuststories | Left town 15/02/16

Their faction may decide the exact details of how characters leave and incorporate their exit into their plots if they wish.

Events
6th March – MOTHER'S DAY. Mothers deserve appreciation too. Of course, the most well-known mother in the supernatural community is Sylvia Redbright, the Mother of Witches. She never asks but she always receives gifts, flowers and well-wishes from her covens. She has an unspoken but vicious rivalry with Millicent, who is also a mother of a sort, being the ultimate sire of most of the Islington Nest. Members of the nest are never told but always subtly encouraged to offer a gift to their leader.

17th March – ST PATRICK'S DAY. The patron saint of Ireland, celebrating St Patrick's Day is the best excuse you will ever have for dressing up in green, going on a pub crawl and getting absolutely wasted. Naturally, Londoners love it.

20th March – OSTARA (SPRING EQUINOX). The spring equinox represents the balance between summer and winter, and thus the Seelie and Unseelie Courts find themselves equally matched. As the sun rises, the Seelie will muster their forces to drive out the Unseelie north of the river. They will succeed and the balance of power in the Other Realm will be reversed – a sign that summer is on its way once again. This is also an important time for witches who are celebrating the renewal and rebirth of spring. It is traditional to plant seeds in one's garden and cast a spell for good luck. However, witches who perform dark magic may find a different occupation: the changeover of seasons is the perfect time to summon the fae from either Court, whose power is at an equal but manageable ebb.

23rd March – FULL MOON. Werewolves, it's that time of the month! Will you chain yourself up or spend the night in a cage? Roam wild in the London parks? Or perhaps find a witch to make you a wolfsbane potion. Whatever you choose, better be prepared.

25th-28th March – EASTER HOLIDAY WEEKEND. Easter is a bank holiday in the UK, which means a four day weekend. It's also usually around this time that the Seelie, overjoyed with happiness at their victory over the Unseelie, decide to spread the love in true Seelie fashion by bestowing gifts on attractive strangers (and friends). The weekend spirit is full of good fortune and cheer.

29th-31st March – NIGHT COUNCIL NOMINATIONS. This three day nominations period marks the beginning of the Night Council elections, the most important democratic event in the supernatural community. Those who wish to stand for one of the five seats on the Night Council must be nominated by other upstanding members of the community. The election campaign will take place through April and culminate in the election itself in early May. Look out for an upcoming mod post with more details on the process.

Plots
The following prompts are up for grabs this month:
1) There is a bounty on a rogue vampire. This vampire is deliberately hunting down other supernatural types in order to turn them. Reward: £900
2) Someone sends you a severed head through the post. – Claimed by Frank
3) In a school where all the students are suspiciously well-behaved, it seems that the headteacher may be using supernatural powers to control them. – Claimed by Serey
4) A fae curses you (and potentially others) to break into song every time you try to speak.

About plots and events
• You may claim one plot prompt per month.
• You can also run your own plots based on the events listed above, or create your own.
• If you claim a plot, then you also volunteer to take the lead OOCly i.e. planning and organizing with other players, deciding on the outcome, setting a timeline etc.
• Once you have claimed a plot, you should introduce it ICly within the next month.
• Plots may not be entirely handwaved. You may handwave some of the plot, but you should play out at least part of it.
• Some plots will require NPCs as well as player characters to fill different roles. Please feel free to make up and play the NPCs yourselves.
• Plots are generally open-ended enough that you can make them big or small. It is up to the player who claims the plot to decide how they would like to handle it. You may want to do open sign-ups for your plot and specify whether there is a limit on how many characters can participate.
• Plots can also be self-contained or form part of an ongoing storyline. Again, it is your choice on how you would like to handle it.
• Please feel free to integrate plots and events or join plots up where appropriate. For example, if you claim a plot that involves a murder, why not choose an event during which the murder could happen? As long as the mod and other players are aware of your plans, I'm happy to accommodate.
Do not ask the mod to explain what the plot is and what your character should do or discover. That is up to you. These plot ideas are just that, ideas, and it is up to you to run with them and decide how and why these events are happening, what your characters are going to do about it, and what the consequences will be.
• You may ask the mod questions pertaining to game mythology, to check that what you are planning to do makes sense within the game world.
This list is not meant to be limiting in any way! Player plots are also very welcome.
• If you have an idea for a player plot, please feel free to comment here and see if there is any interest. Run it by the mod first if you're unsure of anything.

[personal profile] hurtfew 2016-02-27 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
If you think Norrell is letting himself not get voted in again you have another thing coming.

NOBODY ELSE IS GETTING HIS PLACE. He will discredit them. He will make sure they change their mind. He will hang on to his position with the most intense death grip you have ever seen.

VOTE NORRELL '16 TO MAKE LONDON SAFER FOR WITCHES. LOOK AT ALL THE GOOD HE HAS DONE!

RELEVANT TO THIS MONTH: Norrell will be keeping an eye on nomination rumours! Pretty much if he suspects anyone might be competition he will endeavour to make their lives Difficult and/or Over

THE MYSTERY OF A HEAD IN A BOX AND HOW IT GOT SENT IN THE POST ALSO WHO SENT IT TO HIM

[personal profile] falsify 2016-02-28 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Better plot name to follow.

So despite that huge party, it seems not everyone is on board with Eames' appointment as Lord of Illusions, and in the early days of March he'll be getting a package in the post. What's in it, you ask? Oh boy, it's a head in a box! A head belonging to one Mushira Ahmad, which is honestly just so rude. She was a Seelie minion, get your shit straight.

I don't have a huge amount in mind for this beyond points A and B. Point A, Eames is literally going to turn up at Hillingdon with the head and offer to pay anyone who'll solve the mystery of who it came from and why. (There may be some extra payment if he's brought their head, but he's not gonna announce it.) Point B is that the culprit is someone disgruntled about everything that happened in Croydon only for Eames and Finnick to be celebrated by their courts for it. Someone aligned with Daybreak, perhaps? Who knows?

How we make the journey between the two, however, is undecided. Any thoughts? Wanna join in? Get paid? Eames has a lot of money to burn, yo. He's letting his flat in Vauxhall. Practically rolling in it.

Norrell naturally supports anything to do with ousting fae.

HI HELLO HI

Faolan is the boss man and he is theoretically doing better financially than when I first apped him and had headcanoned that he was seriously struggling to make ends meet. (He's not doing that much better though, I mean I doubt that Hillingdon is paying him and as a full-time Guardian, his pay rate is probably only a little above his hardest struggling times.)

BUT I would still love to have him investigate this because 1) I love doing investigative stuff with him, 2) Faolan has questionable morals, 3) they should get to know each other, him and Eames.

He can investigate with other Hillingdoners, he can organize Hillingdoners to do the investigating, THE SKY IS THE LIMIT TBH I'd just really like in on this -- what are your thoughts? /chinhandsssss

Yes, I am all for this! And I suspected it would be a few Hillingdoners working on it, so as long as y'all are happy with that so am I.

I can offer Sirius to be one of those Hillingdoners. He likes getting paid.

Excellentttttt c: I figure that if Eames is dumping this on Hillingdon (and making it their problem), maybe Faolan could be mobilizing the troops? Like yes, there is a reward on it that he's offering, but Hillingdon could put together a proper investigation to solve the mystery of the head in the box, maybe?

And if that just ends up being Faolan and Sirius doing the investigating, that's a-okay with me haha. Whoever's interested!

We can def use this as an excuse for another thread between these two if you want!! Also we can have Faolan finding out Arthur ~associates~ with at least one fae if he brings up Eames' name in the mix.

FACTION REWARD PLOT: BUSTIN DOORS OPEN

[personal profile] thelittlemerman 2016-02-28 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
HELLO so recently the Seelie/Unseelie Court won the faction reward, and as a result the fae are looking to have a law changed in their favour. Despite the fact that Eames and Finnick both have Big DreamsTM for the future of the courts in London, they're going for a relatively small law change in their eyes. For others it's a pretty big one: they're going to lift the ban on doors to the Other Realm in the Night Council territories.

We are still not entirely sure how this is going to come about, though we assume some charming/bribing has to be done, but I wanted to throw this up both to plot how it's going to come about and whether or not anyone wants to plot reactions/backlash/etc. Frank and I will co-lead the plot with Eames and Finnick so that both courts will have a hand in the law change, but who does what has yet to be determined. I'm just trying to get the ball rolling :)

Yessssss I'd like that! Both of those things!!! (Lmfao ~associates~ indeed Arthur)

Ringer has planted the idea of potentially supporting the fae in some capacity in his head, so he's definitely going to want to know whether that's actually a smart option or not. Her argument is that it will be for the benefit of humanity if Hillingdon were to better their opinion of humans in general. (Also it would be a step against the Night Council, who no one he talks to in Hillingdon seems to like.) SO. This is definitely a talking point for them, especially since they discussed the fae (somewhat) in previous conversations already.

TLDR THOUGHTS WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS HAHA
thelittlemerman: (smile//dork)

[personal profile] thelittlemerman 2016-02-28 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
MY THOUGHTS ARE GENERALLY "IN FAVOUR."

Arthur might get a bit cagey about his relationship with Eames not only because of recent developments, but because he has made deals with him in the past and helped him plot out some of the fae territory shenanigans and he doesn't necessarily want people to know he's involved at that level. HOWEVER he will definitely be in favour of supporting the fae and will try to say that as neutrally as possible because it does mean undermining the Night Council.

[personal profile] brightwitch 2016-02-28 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Either charming/bribing or threats would seem like the obvious way to go! For what it's worth, Sylvia has a vested interest in keeping the fae quiet over the next couple of months because of the upcoming election, so she might be willing to make a deal if she thought the consequences of not doing so would be worse. The same could apply to other Council members.

How would Eames and Finnick approach it?

EXCELLENT c:

And yeah, I'm trying to edge towards a good reason to throw Hillingdon into a territory claim for real, and Faolan's tried to talk to everyone he can about their opinions (though honestly they're all so cagey GOD). He doesn't like the idea of the Night Council and Daybreak ruling over all, but he would still have questions before he just threw himself into siding with their obvious main targets -- which is only smart!! He wouldn't want to throw his all into this only to have everything come back and bite them in the ass
