March 2016 Plotting Post

March 2016
Here is your March plotting post! You can make use of the information here to plot what your character will be doing in the next month. An important event will be kicking off at the end of this month: nominations for the Night Council elections. There will be an OOC post nearer the time with more details.

In the meantime, check out the calendar for a quick summary of when things are happening!

Factions
Last month saw another big shake-up in the witch community, with Abigail Widdowson stepping forward to take her place as the new Maiden of all witches. A notorious and divisive figure best known for leading the first coven openly affiliated with Circle Midnight for several years, her appointment has not been without controversy. Rumours abound that those at the very top of the Night Council have been looking for ways to discredit her – but thus far her claim still stands.

The representatives of the Night Council will soon have other things on their mind, however, as nominations for the Night Council election take place at the end of this month. The incumbents are all automatically nominated unless they choose to step down, and will be preparing to win the hearts and minds of their voters in order to stay in power.

While changes are afoot in the world of politics, the changing of the seasons also means a shift in power for the Seelie and Unseelie Court. March is the month of the spring equinox, when the Seelie finally drive out the Unseelie north of the river, and declare that summer is on its way once again.

Territories
There were no changes in territories this month, the first time that the city has remained stable for almost a year.

Circle Daybreak is the most powerful faction in the city, with seven territories. See the Territories page for more information.

If your faction would like to claim a new territory, please comment to the appropriate thread. Players will then have three days from the date and time of the initial claim to sign up for the conflict. Anyone can sign up, but please only volunteer your character if they are a member of a faction involved in the conflict or they have IC reasons to actively help out. Please do not volunteer if you won't be able to participate in the plot.

If the outcome of the conflict is not already guaranteed, I will then look at the sign-ups list to calculate which faction will emerge victorious. It is up to players to plan and play out the actual conflict itself. If you comment to claim a territory, then you should also take the lead in planning and organizing it.

Minions
The following lucky minions will be promoted this month:
Sarah Roberts | Witch, Circle Daybreak | Level 1
‣ A skittish younger witch who can communicate with animals. Has a large number of cats.

Tobias Dalton | Witch, Circle Daybreak | Level 1
‣ A young male witch who specialises in barrier and disruption spells.

Thomas Hillis | Meta Human, Hillingdon Clan | Level 1
‣ Fresh-faced trainee hunter. Wants to make a difference in the Underground and all that rubbish.

Kristoff Danielson | Vampire, Unseelie Court | Level 1
‣ A vampire with a rather unfortunate addiction to fae blood. A curse keeps him from drinking the unwilling, so he helps the court in exchange for his hits.

Aeronwy Cadwalader | Fae, Unseelie Court | Level 1
‣ An ancient siren whose voice is powerful and haunting.

Agnes | Meta Human, Unseelie Court | Level 1
‣ She's almost certainly just a friendly old lady.

These minions will decide to leave town this month:
Rebecca Thomas | Witch, Circle Daybreak | Level 1
‣ A small witch who has an intense fear of werewolves and vampires.

Chloe Baxter | Human, Circle Midnight | Level 1
‣ A football-mad mother of three whose oldest daughter is a witch.

Michelle Baxter | Witch, Circle Midnight | Level 2
‣ A secondary school girl who has become politically active as a witch, "championing" the cause of Circle Midnight via neighbourhood petitions.

Kaydance Rivers | Witch, Circle Midnight | Level 1
‣ Desperate to get into a good school, Kay has turned to (secretly) trying to make deals with fae for academic success.

Carina Figueroa | Human, Hillingdon Clan | Level 1
‣ Witnessed the death of her son at the hands of a vampire and now harbours a grudge about as loaded as her illegal semi-automatic.

Christopher Zil | Meta Human, Redbright Institute | Level 2
‣ Member of the Outreach team. Powers include slowing and quickening time.

Hanh Vu | Fae, Seelie Court | Level 1
‣ An antisocial fae who loves puzzles.

And these less fortunate minions will sadly die this month:
Maria Foster | Witch, Circle Daybreak | Level 1
‣ A quiet witch focused on healing magic.

Paula Black | Witch, Circle Daybreak | Level 1
‣ A witch who specialises in fire due to an abject hate of the cold.

Mushira Ahmad | Human, Seelie Court | Level 1
‣ A frequent attendee of parties held by fae. She made a few too many deals and now works for the fae in return for a free decadent lifestyle.

Factions may decide how and when their minions die, leave town or receive a promotion. Feel free to work these developments into any of this month's plots.

Drops
The following characters will be leaving this month:
Lagertha | Seelie Court | [personal profile] livesarejuststories | Left town 15/02/16

Their faction may decide the exact details of how characters leave and incorporate their exit into their plots if they wish.

Events
6th March – MOTHER'S DAY. Mothers deserve appreciation too. Of course, the most well-known mother in the supernatural community is Sylvia Redbright, the Mother of Witches. She never asks but she always receives gifts, flowers and well-wishes from her covens. She has an unspoken but vicious rivalry with Millicent, who is also a mother of a sort, being the ultimate sire of most of the Islington Nest. Members of the nest are never told but always subtly encouraged to offer a gift to their leader.

17th March – ST PATRICK'S DAY. The patron saint of Ireland, celebrating St Patrick's Day is the best excuse you will ever have for dressing up in green, going on a pub crawl and getting absolutely wasted. Naturally, Londoners love it.

20th March – OSTARA (SPRING EQUINOX). The spring equinox represents the balance between summer and winter, and thus the Seelie and Unseelie Courts find themselves equally matched. As the sun rises, the Seelie will muster their forces to drive out the Unseelie north of the river. They will succeed and the balance of power in the Other Realm will be reversed – a sign that summer is on its way once again. This is also an important time for witches who are celebrating the renewal and rebirth of spring. It is traditional to plant seeds in one's garden and cast a spell for good luck. However, witches who perform dark magic may find a different occupation: the changeover of seasons is the perfect time to summon the fae from either Court, whose power is at an equal but manageable ebb.

23rd March – FULL MOON. Werewolves, it's that time of the month! Will you chain yourself up or spend the night in a cage? Roam wild in the London parks? Or perhaps find a witch to make you a wolfsbane potion. Whatever you choose, better be prepared.

25th-28th March – EASTER HOLIDAY WEEKEND. Easter is a bank holiday in the UK, which means a four day weekend. It's also usually around this time that the Seelie, overjoyed with happiness at their victory over the Unseelie, decide to spread the love in true Seelie fashion by bestowing gifts on attractive strangers (and friends). The weekend spirit is full of good fortune and cheer.

29th-31st March – NIGHT COUNCIL NOMINATIONS. This three day nominations period marks the beginning of the Night Council elections, the most important democratic event in the supernatural community. Those who wish to stand for one of the five seats on the Night Council must be nominated by other upstanding members of the community. The election campaign will take place through April and culminate in the election itself in early May. Look out for an upcoming mod post with more details on the process.

Plots
The following prompts are up for grabs this month:
1) There is a bounty on a rogue vampire. This vampire is deliberately hunting down other supernatural types in order to turn them. Reward: £900
2) Someone sends you a severed head through the post. – Claimed by Frank
3) In a school where all the students are suspiciously well-behaved, it seems that the headteacher may be using supernatural powers to control them. – Claimed by Serey
4) A fae curses you (and potentially others) to break into song every time you try to speak.

About plots and events
• You may claim one plot prompt per month.
• You can also run your own plots based on the events listed above, or create your own.
• If you claim a plot, then you also volunteer to take the lead OOCly i.e. planning and organizing with other players, deciding on the outcome, setting a timeline etc.
• Once you have claimed a plot, you should introduce it ICly within the next month.
• Plots may not be entirely handwaved. You may handwave some of the plot, but you should play out at least part of it.
• Some plots will require NPCs as well as player characters to fill different roles. Please feel free to make up and play the NPCs yourselves.
• Plots are generally open-ended enough that you can make them big or small. It is up to the player who claims the plot to decide how they would like to handle it. You may want to do open sign-ups for your plot and specify whether there is a limit on how many characters can participate.
• Plots can also be self-contained or form part of an ongoing storyline. Again, it is your choice on how you would like to handle it.
• Please feel free to integrate plots and events or join plots up where appropriate. For example, if you claim a plot that involves a murder, why not choose an event during which the murder could happen? As long as the mod and other players are aware of your plans, I'm happy to accommodate.
Do not ask the mod to explain what the plot is and what your character should do or discover. That is up to you. These plot ideas are just that, ideas, and it is up to you to run with them and decide how and why these events are happening, what your characters are going to do about it, and what the consequences will be.
• You may ask the mod questions pertaining to game mythology, to check that what you are planning to do makes sense within the game world.
This list is not meant to be limiting in any way! Player plots are also very welcome.
• If you have an idea for a player plot, please feel free to comment here and see if there is any interest. Run it by the mod first if you're unsure of anything.

Sylvia Redbright (NPC)

[personal profile] brightwitch 2016-03-02 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Sylvia will be preparing for the upcoming election campaign this month! That means she may have to make nice with people she normally hates. Fun times. I've got a few potential things for her on my list:

• She should probably bite the bullet and stop shunning Abigail. Maiden and Mother should meet, after all. And Sylvia wants to know if her ambitions stretch beyond Maiden.
• Meeting with the fae (Eames and Finnick?) to arrange the law change this month (allowing fae to open doors to the Other Realm in Night Council territory).
• Telling off Faolan for his involvement in the Bromley claim.

Would anyone else like a thread with Sylvia this month? Let me know!

Abigail Widdowson

[personal profile] acrookedchild 2016-03-06 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm Lynn, and I'll be offering quite a few characters one at a time. Let's start with Abigail.

Abby is the Maiden of Witches, further confirmed by her development of visions of the future. These will be vague to her, but I'm happy to work in anything someone wants.

She is also the head of Circle Midnight, and she's well known for clashing with Sylvia. At the same time, she's a twenty year old girl who is very isolated and trying to stand in politics.

Lord Colin Coward

[personal profile] occultdisciple 2016-03-06 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
So, Lord Coward I a vampire Earl in Islington. He was turned during the Victorian era.

He's a political creature, and he's been making deals revolving around helping push the far out of territory in London. (Ask im, and he'll point out they have a whole world to themselves.) He's eyeing the spot Milicent holds on the Night Council, but since she's not likely to give it up... he's waiting. Just to see what happens.

Kenzi Malikov

[personal profile] kleptofaeniac 2016-03-07 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
So mah gurl Kenzi is a freshly made vampire as of last month (yay?) and she'll be missing her magic something fierce at this point but she's way more preoccupied with not eating everyone around her at the moment /sob

She's also working as a cocktail waitress in Jean-Claude's strip joint club Guilty Pleasures - a (mostly) male strip club. If your character has a hankerin' for some Magic Mike style fun times go ahead and do it and I'll be sure to tag you with Kenzi!

If you'd like to get almost eaten by her (or maybe actually get a little eaten I'm not kinkshaming /shot) please let me know and we can do something with that!

So James here is now the official Alpha of the East End Pack of werewolves! Yay him! This month he's going to play it sort of quiet (mostly because I want to spend this month tagging out instead of making posts lol) and he'll still be keeping his cards close to his chest.

He's controversially and slightly secretly allied with the Islington Nest - being a lawyer first and a werewolf second, he sees the potential in being allied with his sworn (and more powerful) enemy. He's also made friends(?) with Ringer of the Hillingdon Clan and is going to attempt to solidify that alliance as well.

Sirius Black

[personal profile] constantprisoner 2016-03-09 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
So, I'm finally getting my act together after a bit of craziness and offer this guy.

Sirius spent most of last month convincing people that he's cool and not a murderer so please don't send him to jail again even though that is a nice bounty on his head. He's also been hanging around Hillingdon a lot.

He'll be participating in the Bromley claim but trying to be as secretive as possible about it.

Otherwise I am open to anything and everything. If you want him anywhere specific, please let me know. I'll be tagging into things as well.

THE MYSTERY OF A HEAD IN A BOX AND HOW IT GOT SENT IN THE POST ALSO WHO SENT IT TO HIM

[personal profile] falsify 2016-02-28 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Better plot name to follow.

So despite that huge party, it seems not everyone is on board with Eames' appointment as Lord of Illusions, and in the early days of March he'll be getting a package in the post. What's in it, you ask? Oh boy, it's a head in a box! A head belonging to one Mushira Ahmad, which is honestly just so rude. She was a Seelie minion, get your shit straight.

I don't have a huge amount in mind for this beyond points A and B. Point A, Eames is literally going to turn up at Hillingdon with the head and offer to pay anyone who'll solve the mystery of who it came from and why. (There may be some extra payment if he's brought their head, but he's not gonna announce it.) Point B is that the culprit is someone disgruntled about everything that happened in Croydon only for Eames and Finnick to be celebrated by their courts for it. Someone aligned with Daybreak, perhaps? Who knows?

How we make the journey between the two, however, is undecided. Any thoughts? Wanna join in? Get paid? Eames has a lot of money to burn, yo. He's letting his flat in Vauxhall. Practically rolling in it.

HI HELLO HI

Faolan is the boss man and he is theoretically doing better financially than when I first apped him and had headcanoned that he was seriously struggling to make ends meet. (He's not doing that much better though, I mean I doubt that Hillingdon is paying him and as a full-time Guardian, his pay rate is probably only a little above his hardest struggling times.)

BUT I would still love to have him investigate this because 1) I love doing investigative stuff with him, 2) Faolan has questionable morals, 3) they should get to know each other, him and Eames.

He can investigate with other Hillingdoners, he can organize Hillingdoners to do the investigating, THE SKY IS THE LIMIT TBH I'd just really like in on this -- what are your thoughts? /chinhandsssss

FACTION REWARD PLOT: BUSTIN DOORS OPEN

[personal profile] thelittlemerman 2016-02-28 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
HELLO so recently the Seelie/Unseelie Court won the faction reward, and as a result the fae are looking to have a law changed in their favour. Despite the fact that Eames and Finnick both have Big DreamsTM for the future of the courts in London, they're going for a relatively small law change in their eyes. For others it's a pretty big one: they're going to lift the ban on doors to the Other Realm in the Night Council territories.

We are still not entirely sure how this is going to come about, though we assume some charming/bribing has to be done, but I wanted to throw this up both to plot how it's going to come about and whether or not anyone wants to plot reactions/backlash/etc. Frank and I will co-lead the plot with Eames and Finnick so that both courts will have a hand in the law change, but who does what has yet to be determined. I'm just trying to get the ball rolling :)
Edited (gave the plot a cool name) 2016-02-28 15:43 (UTC)

[personal profile] brightwitch 2016-02-28 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Either charming/bribing or threats would seem like the obvious way to go! For what it's worth, Sylvia has a vested interest in keeping the fae quiet over the next couple of months because of the upcoming election, so she might be willing to make a deal if she thought the consequences of not doing so would be worse. The same could apply to other Council members.

How would Eames and Finnick approach it?

DID SOMEBODY SAY 'KIDS IN TROUBLE'?!

[personal profile] tearmeanewone 2016-03-01 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Welcome to Bioshock, where adults do terrible things to children, and socially stunted people stop them.

Elizabeth goes on a site visit with one of her classes to the Fontaine School for Young Women, as an example of what 'good infrastructure design' looks like. Foot traffic in the school is intriguingly organized and hardly anyone is ever late to class-- things that are attributed to the clever layout of classrooms and offices.

But anybody with any understanding of the supernatural can see that these girls are under the influence of mind control, and Elizabeth spots it after spending barely twenty minutes in the building. But who is the source? How can she get them to stop? She needs backup.

The headteacher, Mr. Ezra Kowalski, is to blame for the eerie amount of order the girls at the school display. He's a metahuman with a talent for puppetry and mind-control, recently given his gifts, which are causing some rather unfortunate physical side-effects... The only way to free the girls from his control, in Elizabeth's opinion, is to encourage him to step down and leave town (she's less forgiving when the target of magical trickery happens to be children, apparently...). Mr. Kowalski, however, wants his tenure without a fuss.

I'm thinking three stages to this particular plot: another infiltration to discern who exactly is using their magical influence on the girls, her efforts to gather support to face Kowalski, and a fairly intense fight at the school when Elizabeth and company confront him-- probably featuring attempts at mind-control (MAYBE FIREARMS...?). Who wants in? 83

HILLINGDON TAKES A STAND

[personal profile] reticence 2016-03-03 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
As some may have noted in the territory dispute, Hillingdon has been/will be called to participate in this latest clash. While Hillingdon has normally been staying out of the politics of the world, Faolan has been observing the discrimination amongst the various factions against the fae. While he isn't exactly a friend himself, he believes in HONOR and JUSTICE and despite being jaded against the thought that such things might truly exist in the world, would like to do his part to see that they can get as close as they may.

WHICH IS WHY he will follow the advice of his peers, who have said that they do not trust the vampires, that they do not like these attacks on the fae, and he will call Hillingdon to arms to stand with him. Not against the vampires per se, nor in an alliance with the fae either exactly. But he wants to stand up to the Oppressor, which is at heart the current drive in the Night Council to "eradicate" the fae.

Plot with me on this! As a Hillingdoner, would Faolan be able to convince you into fighting with him? Would it take some effort? Why/why not? As someone on the opposite side, what sort of a reaction would Faolan leading Hillingdon into this defense bring to you? LET ME KNOW I AM EXCITED TO MAKE THINGS HAPPEN HERE.

Especially excited since Faolan is a Night Council Guardian, however hush hush he tries to be about that, and facing up against Norrell's beliefs like this, however indirectly, is NOT going to be gaining him any fans in that department... >>

WEREWOLF CURSE

[personal profile] akillersmile 2016-03-06 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Kyle is being bitten by a werewolf and hating life this month. He will not be activated and will eventually work to undo the curse. The bite will be happening on March 11th.

I know Abigail will be seeing the event before it happens and helping with the remedy.

Anyone else interested in being involved is obv welcome. Just let me know!

Spring raid

[personal profile] livesarejuststories 2016-03-08 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
So, Lagertha (having ducked out of town to let the love potion thing blow over) is returning with the breath of spring. And, in doing so, she is carrying on a proud Viking tradition:

a spring raid.

She will be attempting to "claim" Lambeth in a sort of (ICly) sneak attack. It will take all of a day or so. Primarily, this is a raid for valuable/shiny things because Viking. This is being done in the middle of Coward's claim, but since that's multiple days I personally have no problem with multiple involvement for those who'd be on hand to react quickly! Sky, if there's a problem with that, let me know. I can move dates around.

If she does succeed in taking Lambeth (I'm really not expecting her to, just to get some shiny stuff) I encourage retaking it next month as she isn't going to be interested in defending it.

[personal profile] brightwitch 2016-03-24 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Reading the log, is the child Lagertha takes a witch? This would impact Sylvia's negotiations with Eames and Finnick because she would be extremely pissed off that they had the temerity to make demands after literally kidnapping a child. Even if the child isn't a witch, she'd want them to return the boy to his parents.
