September 2015 Plotting Post

September 2015
Here is your September plotting post! You can make use of the information here to plot what your character will be doing in the next month. Check out the calendar for a quick summary of when things are happening.

In the last month there have been a number of game updates which are hopefully useful to refer to! Here's a quick list:

New guidelines for territory claims – clarifying the process for territory claims and how to take part.
How to bribe a Night Council member and make a petition! – because all politicians are corrupt and you've gotta play the game to change the game.
Information on Night Council elections and representatives – the current shape of the Night Council.
Night Council Guardians and what they do – criteria for becoming a Guardian and what the role involves.

Factions
The East End Pack is in need of a new leader following the departure of their previous alpha Derek Hale at the end of August. While they fight amongst themselves to decide the new alpha, they must also contend with the upcoming blood moon that will render every werewolf powerless. These are dangerous times for the pack.

The power of the Seelie Court is also waning as the Unseelie Court prepares for war. It will be in this month at the autumn equinox that the balance is finally tipped and the Unseelie Court take their rightful place as rulers north of the river.

The Islington Nest will react to what it sees as hostile forces surrounding its territories, embarking on a recruitment drive. Are the vampires gearing up for war with the werewolves or with the fae?

Finally, even the most urban of witches always feel a strong connection to nature. This month, they will be celebrating all things related to the harvest.

Territories
The Seelie and Unseelie Court now have control of Lewisham, which was previously a lawless territory. Circle Daybreak is the most powerful faction in the city, with six territories. Current disputes include Greenwich and Haringey, which are both claimed by vampires and werewolves. Meanwhile, Lambeth remains a lawless territory, dangerous for anyone to enter. See the Territories page for more information.

Please note that new guidelines for territory claims have now been added to the Territories page. Make sure you're familiar with them before taking part in a claim, and let me know if you have any questions.

If your faction would like to claim a new territory, please comment to the appropriate thread. Players will then have three days from the date and time of the initial claim to sign up for the conflict. Anyone can sign up, but please only volunteer your character if they are a member of a faction involved in the conflict or they have IC reasons to actively help out. Please do not volunteer if you won't be able to participate in the plot.

If the outcome of the conflict is not already guaranteed, I will then look at the sign-ups list to calculate which faction will emerge victorious. It is up to players to plan and play out the actual conflict itself. If you comment to claim a territory, then you should also take the lead in planning and organizing it.

Minions
The following lucky minions will be promoted this month:
Ume | Fae, Seelie Court | Level 1
‣ A reserved kitsune who likes peace and quiet. The most likely to have a tart remark.

Michê | Fae, Unseelie Court | Level 1
‣ A Yeti from the Himalayas. Huge, at least nine feet tall but not very bright. Mostly acts as muscle. Doesn't do well in heat so he can only visit for short periods of time on hot days unless a winter fae is around to keep him cool.

These minions will decide to leave town this month:
Laura Hendricks | Witch, Circle Midnight | Level 1
‣ A woman of sixty who belonged to a scattered Midnight coven in her youth. She gives good advice, but it's usually buried in long, boring stories.

Kiku | Fae, Seelie Court | Level 1
‣ A polite kitsune who struggles to be ladylike. The most likely to sneak sweets.

Onmoraki | Fae, Seelie Court | Level 1
‣ A fork-tongued black crane. Ill-tempered, with a propensity to breathe fire.

Apsi | Fae, Unseelie Court | Level 1
‣ A quiet bee-like fae who prefers to keep to herself. Twin sister of Mellifera.

Astarte | Fae, Unseelie Court | Level 1
‣ A Muse with a fondness for art. Can hide among paintings.

And these less fortunate minions will sadly die this month:
Danil | Fae, Seelie Court | Level 1
‣ A quiet, intense individual who spent most of his life as a changeling before discovering his true nature. Still adjusting to his new identity.

Karakasa Kozou | Fae, Seelie Court | Level 1
‣ A neglected old umbrella spirit. Resentful at its treatment in human hands.

Phobos | Fae, Seelie Court | Level 1
‣ A karasu tengu that likes shiny objects. Fierce and prideful.

Deimos | Fae, Seelie Court | Level 1
‣ A karasu tengu that likes to play in the snow. Inquisitive and clever.

Wanyuudo | Fae, Seelie Court | Level 1
‣ A vengeful creature resembling a man's head bound to a fiery wheel of fate.

Factions may decide how and when their minions die, leave town or receive a promotion. Feel free to work these developments into any of this month's plots.

Drops
The following characters will be leaving this month:
Apollo Justice | Redbright Institute | [personal profile] apolly | Left town 17/8/15
Malia Tate | East End Pack | [personal profile] tippytoes | Left town 22/8/15
Derek Hale | East End Pack | [personal profile] viduation | Left town 25/8/15
Stiles Stilinski | East End Pack | [personal profile] mensrea | Left town 26/8/15

Their faction may decide the exact details of how characters leave and incorporate their exit into their plots if they wish.

Events
1st September – SCHOOL YEAR BEGINS. Sorry, kids, the holidays are over. New year, new term... maybe even new teachers or classmates. Have fun.

4th-25th September – RECRUITMENT DRIVE. This is Islington Nest speak for turning new vampires. Concerned in particular by the rise of the fae, Millicent's orders are for every earl and countess to bring new lackeys into the nest, and to turn the most promising into vampires. She will also be encouraging violent scare tactics around the borders of Islington Nest territory, to make sure that everyone knows the vampires are not to be messed with. Expect increasing numbers of vampire attacks, missing people and intimidation in general.

5th September – STRAW JACK IN THE GREEN. In Carshalton, Sutton, a straw man will be set on fire as part of a traditional harvest ritual. That's after you've spent the whole day in the local pubs, of course. Witches love all the tree hugging, but beware of the Unseelie who may try to sneak in as one of the characters.

19th September – HARVEST FESTIVAL.* The biggest harvest-themed event of the month is the traditional Harvest Festival which is held by the witches. Sponsored by Sylvia Redbright, it takes place in Elthorne Park. There are market stalls, a harvest altar where charitable donations can be made, and numerous witches selling trinkets, potions and low-level spells. In addition, one character from every supernatural species except ghosts may volunteer to take part in a blood ritual, designed to promote supernatural unity. This will be a mingling event designed to welcome new players! Everyone is invited.

23rd September – MABON (AUTUMN EQUINOX). The autumn equinox represents the balance between summer and winter, and thus the Seelie and Unseelie Courts find themselves equally matched. As darkness falls, the Unseelie will muster their forces to drive out the Seelie north of the river. They will succeed and the balance of power in the Other Realm will be reversed – a sign that winter will soon take hold. This is also an important time for witches who are giving thanks for the harvest. It is traditional to invite guests into one's home for a celebratory meal. However, witches who perform dark magic may find a different occupation: the changeover of seasons is the perfect time to summon the fae from either Court, whose power is at an equal but manageable ebb.

28th September – BLOOD MOON (TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE). A rare event and one that has a significant impact on the werewolf population. Instead of transforming, werewolves temporarily lose all of their supernatural powers during a total lunar eclipse. The sun's shadow will begin passing over the moon at 02:07. Wolves will begin to feel their powers waning and may experience a strange lethargy. Between 03:11 and 04:23 the eclipse will be total and the moon will appear blood red. During this time, werewolves will be completely powerless. Finally, the sun's shadow will leave the moon at 05:27. By this time, werewolves will begin to recover their normal strength.

*There will be a mod-posted log for this event.

Plots
The following prompts are up for grabs this month:
1) Missing person alert. A hunter has gone missing. They were last seen almost a month ago, travelling to the outskirts of London to hunt down a werewolf. Reward: £500 – Claimed by Jack
2) You discover a coffin containing a sleeping vampire. Upon waking, it becomes apparent that the vampire is in fact a fae, and they put you in the coffin instead. The coffin is under a spell that means it must always be occupied.
3) (Warning: Child death.) A child is in hospital. You save the child's life with vampire blood, but the next day the child is killed in an accident and wakes up in transition to becoming a vampire. Child vampires have no concept of controlling their blood lust and it is forbidden to turn them. What do you do? – Claimed by Katy
4) Travellers over a bridge are being stopped by a fae demanding that they answer a riddle. Everyone who gets the riddle wrong is turned into a goose. – Claimed by Violet

About plots and events
• You may claim one plot prompt per month.
• You can also run your own plots based on the events listed above, or create your own.
• If you claim a plot, then you also volunteer to take the lead OOCly i.e. planning and organizing with other players, deciding on the outcome, setting a timeline etc.
• Once you have claimed a plot, you should introduce it ICly within the next month.
• Plots may not be entirely handwaved. You may handwave some of the plot, but you should play out at least part of it.
• Some plots will require NPCs as well as player characters to fill different roles. Please feel free to make up and play the NPCs yourselves.
• Plots are generally open-ended enough that you can make them big or small. It is up to the player who claims the plot to decide how they would like to handle it. You may want to do open sign-ups for your plot and specify whether there is a limit on how many characters can participate.
• Plots can also be self-contained or form part of an ongoing storyline. Again, it is your choice on how you would like to handle it.
• Please feel free to integrate plots and events or join plots up where appropriate. For example, if you claim a plot that involves a murder, why not choose an event during which the murder could happen? As long as the mod and other players are aware of your plans, I'm happy to accommodate.
Do not ask the mod to explain what the plot is and what your character should do or discover. That is up to you. These plot ideas are just that, ideas, and it is up to you to run with them and decide how and why these events are happening, what your characters are going to do about it, and what the consequences will be.
• You may ask the mod questions pertaining to game mythology, to check that what you are planning to do makes sense within the game world.
This list is not meant to be limiting in any way! Player plots are also very welcome.
• If you have an idea for a player plot, please feel free to comment here and see if there is any interest. Run it by the mod first if you're unsure of anything.
