September 2017 Plotting Post

September 2017
Welcome to your September plotting post! You can make use of the information here to plot what your character will be doing in the next month. The next How's My Driving post is coming up mid-month, so look out for that. We've also got at least one territory claim happening this month thanks to the East End Pack's faction reward, so let's get stuck in...

Check out the calendar for a quick summary of when things are happening. You can also check the game timeline to see what has happened in the game so far.

Factions
Despite President Cesare Borgia's call for peace last month, the Islington Nest and East End Pack are still at war, with Newham remaining a disputed territory. The werewolves will flex their muscles this month by taking Greenwich, and their alpha Katherine Moore isn't messing about when it comes to strengthening the pack. In defiance of Night Council law, she will be ordering her wolves to target humans to bite and turn in the week of the full moon. She's building an army and she means business.

It's no coincidence that as the East End Pack defies Night Council rules, the Night Council itself is slowly becoming more dominated by vampires, with its first new vampire Guardians inaugurated last month.

Meanwhile, as the new school year begins at the Redbright Institute, Chancellor Sylvia Redbright is feeling more like her old self and looking for opportunities to take advantage of the current political atmosphere. She will be putting out an open call for people of all supernatural kinds to join the school faculty and by extension support Redbright's mission to enforce peace across London. Her people will be particularly targeting those who are unhappy with their current faction, and those new to the city.

Finally, the power of the Seelie Court is also waning as the Unseelie Court prepares for war. It will be in this month at the autumn equinox that the balance is finally tipped and the Unseelie Court take their rightful place as rulers north of the river. The Unseelie Court are feeling particularly smug this month after one of their own won the Night Tournament in the summer, and their celebrations are likely to be even more raucous than usual.

Territories
There were no changes to territories in the previous month. The Islington Nest remains the most powerful faction in the city with seven territories. See the Territories page for more information.

If your faction would like to claim a new territory, please comment to the appropriate thread. Players will then have three days from the date and time of the initial claim to sign up for the conflict. Anyone can sign up, but please only volunteer your character if they are a member of a faction involved in the conflict or they have IC reasons to actively help out. Please do not volunteer if you won't be able to participate in the plot.

If the outcome of the conflict is not already guaranteed, I will then look at the sign-ups list to calculate which faction will emerge victorious. It is up to players to plan and play out the actual conflict itself. If you comment to claim a territory, then you should also take the lead in planning and organizing it.

Minions
The following lucky minions will be promoted this month:
Joseph Leake | Werewolf, East End Pack | Level 1
‣ Somewhat of a perfectionist. Runs a business selling artsy taxidermy pieces.

Olin Stacey | Werewolf, East End Pack | Level 1
‣ Constantly brags about his great-great-great-grandmother, who he claims was an impressive Queen. The identifying details of her "legendary pack" change every time he tells the story. It's very annoying.
These minions will decide to leave town this month:
Stephen Krazinski | Human, Hillingdon Clan | Level 1
‣ Largely just became a hunter for the exciting fights.
Factions may decide how and when their minions die, leave town or receive a promotion. Feel free to work these developments into any of this month's plots.

Events
2nd-23rd September – LET'S GET BITTEN. In defiance of Night Council law, the East End Pack alpha Katherine Moore will order her pack to find and turn new werewolves in a bid to strengthen the pack's numbers. The days leading up to the full moon will be spent identifying likely candidates: young men (usually men) who feel lost or adrift and are looking for somewhere to belong. The full moon itself is of course when the wolves will be out in force to attack their victims, while the days after will be spent triggering their curses (and yes, that means organising murder) and then inducting the new recruits into the pack. All of this will be done in secret: Katherine doesn't want the Night Council to find out and put a stop to it, but of course rampaging werewolves and murder can be rather difficult to cover up...

4th September – SCHOOL YEAR BEGINS. Sorry, kids, the holidays are over. New year, new term... maybe even new teachers or classmates. Have fun.

4th-25th September – REDBRIGHT RECRUITMENT DRIVE. Sylvia Redbright's eager recruitment agents will be out there canvassing for potential new recruits to join the Redbright Institute faculty. They're particularly eager to target those who are unhappy with their current faction, as well as newcomers to the city. If you'd like to join the school, drop the mod a line! Of course, it's a free choice... Even if you get a leaflet shoved into your hands, that doesn't mean you have to apply for a job.

6th September – FULL MOON. Werewolves, it's that time of the month! Will you chain yourself up or spend the night in a cage? Roam wild in the London parks? Or perhaps find a witch to make you a wolfsbane potion. Whatever you choose, better be prepared.

22nd September – MABON (AUTUMN EQUINOX). The autumn equinox represents the balance between summer and winter, and thus the Seelie and Unseelie Courts find themselves equally matched. As darkness falls, the Unseelie will muster their forces to drive out the Seelie north of the river. They will succeed and the balance of power in the Other Realm will be reversed – a sign that winter will soon take hold. This is also an important time for witches who are giving thanks for the harvest. It is traditional to invite guests into one's home for a celebratory meal. However, witches who perform dark magic may find a different occupation: the changeover of seasons is the perfect time to summon the fae from either Court, whose power is at an equal but manageable ebb.

Plots
The following prompts are up for grabs this month:
1) There is a bounty on a rogue fae. Witches practising dark magic have called up a fae beyond their control, and it is now causing distorted magical effects and weather disturbances across the area. Please capture the offending witch or witches alive. Reward: £2500
2) Parents at a school are mysteriously disappearing. Their children are the culprits: changelings, put in place at the school by a fae posing as one of the staff.
3) A meta human causes a stir by jumping off Big Ben and surviving the fall, to the delight of the world's media. It's being passed off as a stunt, but in the furore, the meta human seems to have disappeared.
4) You're asked to host or help out at a harvest festival. All seems to be going well until the corn dollies come to life...

About plots and events
• You may claim one plot prompt per month.
• You can also run your own plots based on the events listed above, or create your own.
• If you claim a plot, then you also volunteer to take the lead OOCly i.e. planning and organizing with other players, deciding on the outcome, setting a timeline etc.
• Once you have claimed a plot, you should introduce it ICly within the next month.
• Plots may not be entirely handwaved. You may handwave some of the plot, but you should play out at least part of it.
• Some plots will require NPCs as well as player characters to fill different roles. Please feel free to make up and play the NPCs yourselves.
• Plots are generally open-ended enough that you can make them big or small. It is up to the player who claims the plot to decide how they would like to handle it. You may want to do open sign-ups for your plot and specify whether there is a limit on how many characters can participate.
• Plots can also be self-contained or form part of an ongoing storyline. Again, it is your choice on how you would like to handle it.
• Please feel free to integrate plots and events or join plots up where appropriate. For example, if you claim a plot that involves a murder, why not choose an event during which the murder could happen? As long as the mod and other players are aware of your plans, I'm happy to accommodate.
Do not ask the mod to explain what the plot is and what your character should do or discover. That is up to you. These plot ideas are just that, ideas, and it is up to you to run with them and decide how and why these events are happening, what your characters are going to do about it, and what the consequences will be.
• You may ask the mod questions pertaining to game mythology, to check that what you are planning to do makes sense within the game world.
This list is not meant to be limiting in any way! Player plots are also very welcome.
• If you have an idea for a player plot, please feel free to comment here and see if there is any interest. Run it by the mod first if you're unsure of anything.
