Sign up for the Night Tournament!
This month we have a special event in the form of the Night Tournament, a friendly competition open to all of London's supernatural inhabitants. The opening ceremony takes place on 6th August, with the tournament itself starting after that. Read on to find out how you can participate!
Summary
Every four years the Night Tournament is held in London as a celebration of the physical, mental and magical prowess of its supernatural inhabitants. Over three weeks the chosen competitors will take on three challenges in an effort to be crowned Champions of their species. The competitor with the highest overall score will be crowned Night Champion and receive a grand prize from the President himself. This year the tournament is being hosted by the Redbright Institute although events will take place across London.
The tournament is open to anyone, no matter their age or level of ability. Competitors can either volunteer or be nominated by their faction (so if you're looking for an excuse for your character to participate even if they wouldn't volunteer, you can say they were nominated).
The tournament is officially hosted by Sylvia Redbright, Chancellor of the Redbright Institute. Sylvia has organised the tournament alongside Alexandrie Belrose, the Dean, and Yasmine Merad who also works at the school as well as being on the Night Council. These three have designed the games and will act as adjudicators during the event.
These are the prizes on offer:
• The highest-scoring competitors representing each species will each receive £1000 and a silver crown.
• The overall winner will be crowned Night Champion, receiving £10,000, a golden crown and a special ability granted by the Night Council (the equivalent of a Guardian reward).
OOCly, everyone who competes will receive 5 activity points. You must fulfil the minimum requirements of posting a summary for each of the 3 games by the deadline in order to claim these points.

The Tournament
Opening Ceremony: Redbright Institute
The official starting ceremony takes place at the Redbright Institute on 6th August. The ceremony is open to all to attend and there will be a mod-posted mingle log to kick things off. The opening ceremony is also when the competitors themselves will be announced by the tournament host, Sylvia Redbright, so feel to congratulate those selected.
The Games
Competitors play 3 games in total over the 3 weeks of the tournament i.e. one per week.
• Week 1 will test Strength. Competitors must face each other in one-to-one combat, with every round a knockout until a winner emerges.
• Week 2 will test Cunning. Competitors will be locked in a mystery room which they must work out how to escape from.
• Week 3 will test Skill. Competitors will race across London and are allowed to use any means at their disposal (except for getting help from anyone else) to get from the starting point to the finish point.
Closing Ceremony: Redbright Institute
The closing ceremony takes place at the Redbright Institute on 26th August. Here Sylvia Redbright will announce the winners representing the best of every supernatural species, and the overall winner will be crowned Night Champion by a special guest: Cesare Borgia, President of the Night Council.
How to Play
To compete in the tournament, you must play 3 games over 3 weeks. It's not as involved as it sounds: each game requires you to post one summary comment that describes your character's approach to the game. Based on your summary, I will then reply to your comment to let you know how well your character does in that game.
Of course, you are also encouraged to play out the games themselves as they happen! Characters are told in advance what the game will be so feel free to thread out anything from preparing for the game, the game itself, to celebrating or commiserating with a drink afterwards.
How are the games scored?
Competitors are awarded points depending on where they place in each game. First place = 12 points, second place = 10 points, third place = 8 points and then fourth and below is 7, 6, 5 etc points. I will assign each competitor a score after every game based on the summary of their performance. The winners will be announced in the closing ceremony log.
What if I'm not a competitor?
There are several ways to get involved even if you're not competing. Your character can attend the opening and closing ceremonies to meet the competitors and see the winners being announced. You can place bets on who will win each game when the tournament log is posted (there will be a dedicated thread for this). And of course you can watch the games themselves, cheer on your favourites, celebrate victory, offer support in case of defeat, heal the wounded... and bribe any of the adjudicators to give your preferred competitor an advantage if you so wish.
Wait, did you say bribe?
That's right. For this event only, you can bribe any one of the adjudicators (that's Sylvia Redbright, Alexandrie Belrose and Yasmine Merad) to stack the odds in favour of your preferred competitor. Only characters who aren't competing in the tournament can offer bribes. You can only bribe one adjudicator once, so choose your preferred competitor carefully. Bribes don't guarantee a win but they will move the character one or two places up in the rankings for each game. Go here to make a bribe.
The Competitors
The 16 competitors have now been selected! They are:
Eames (Fae)
The Lord of Autumn, representing the fae of the Unseelie Court!
