September 2016 Plotting Post

September 2016
Welcome to your September plotting post! You can make use of the information here to plot what your character will be doing in the next month. This month will see a major change to the structure of the game: the elimination of Circle Midnight. Characters currently in Circle Midnight will be moved over to other factions (no need to spend any activity points). Read on to find out how it's all going down!

Check out the calendar for a quick summary of when things are happening. You can also check the game timeline to see what has happened in the game so far.

Factions
At the end of August, the Night Council will announce that their empty seat has been filled by none other than Diphylleia "Dee" Absin, a High Priestess of Circle Daybreak. She once held the seat of Vice President and will now become Treasurer, taking on responsibility for the Night Council's finances.

Meanwhile, the Islington Nest has broken away from Night Council law and continues to throw its weight around, taking over Greenwich and even kidnapping the Night Council's Chief Guardian. Now it has formally declared an alliance with Circle Midnight, with Abigail Widdowson joining Raymond Harris's fledgling rival Night Council. The Seelie/Unseelie Court were also invited to join, but chose to reject Raymond's offer.

The Redbright Institute and Hillingdon Clan continue their work to defend against the vampire threat and this month will agree to support each other in fighting the Islington Nest, with Redbright agreeing to allow Hillingdon to expand its territory in order to better prepare themselves for the battle ahead.

For almost a year, Circle Midnight and the Redbright Institute have maintained a non-aggression pact which has allowed Circle Midnight to maintain its presence in Enfield. This month will see that deal come to an end. Determined to stamp out any support that Raymond might have before it can take root, Sylvia Redbright will order an attack on Enfield with the aim of destroying Circle Midnight once and for all. By mid-month, Abigail Widdowson and key Midnight witches will be captured and exiled from the city. By the end of the month, Circle Midnight will be effectively out of the political game, forcing any Midnight witches who remain to ally themselves with another faction for their own safety.

Finally, the power of the Seelie Court is also waning as the Unseelie Court prepares for war. It will be in this month at the autumn equinox that the balance is finally tipped and the Unseelie Court take their rightful place as rulers north of the river.

Territories
The Islington Nest have taken Greenwich from the East End Pack, putting the two factions on equal terms. Circle Daybreak is the most powerful faction in the city, with eight territories. See the Territories page for more information.

If your faction would like to claim a new territory, please comment to the appropriate thread. Players will then have three days from the date and time of the initial claim to sign up for the conflict. Anyone can sign up, but please only volunteer your character if they are a member of a faction involved in the conflict or they have IC reasons to actively help out. Please do not volunteer if you won't be able to participate in the plot.

If the outcome of the conflict is not already guaranteed, I will then look at the sign-ups list to calculate which faction will emerge victorious. It is up to players to plan and play out the actual conflict itself. If you comment to claim a territory, then you should also take the lead in planning and organizing it.

Minions
The following lucky minions will be promoted this month:
Edwin Lloyd | Vampire, Islington Nest | Level 1
‣ A banker who's managed Islington Nest's assets since the 1830s. Nobody really likes him, but they keep him around because they can't be bothered to learn how to do it themselves.

Sara McKinnon | Fae, Unseelie Court | Level 1
‣ A young and temperamental kelpie. She'll fight anyone at any time in any place.
These minions will decide to leave town this month:
Henry Winter | Witch, Circle Midnight | Level 1
‣ An academically gifted young man more interested in the esoteric than current affairs.

Danny Álvaro | Werewolf, East End Pack | Level 1
‣ A struggling artist turned three years ago. Has never sold a single one of his hundreds of wolf-themed paintings.

Cynthia Porter | Human, Seelie Court | Level 2
‣ The nerdy girl everyone always made fun of. She made a bargain of servitude in exchange for the punishment of her tormentors.
And these less fortunate minions will sadly die this month:
Lydia Samuels | Vampire, Islington Nest | Level 2
‣ A thoroughly modern flapper girl who likes to party all night and occasionally drain her boyfriends of more than just their cash. In the peak of her youth, she sought out a vampire to turn her so that she could keep her physique for her dancing for the rest of time.

Charles Spears | Vampire, Islington Nest | Level 1
‣ A former Victorian businessman, Charles has managed to roll with the times in every regard except his patterns of speech. Possibly the only person in all of London to know what a rain napper is or to have heard of the phrase 'belly timber', never mind using it.
Factions may decide how and when their minions die, leave town or receive a promotion. Feel free to work these developments into any of this month's plots.

Drops
The following characters will be leaving this month:
Joscelin FitzThomas de Lisle | Islington Nest | [personal profile] dredefulchilde | Left town 27/8/16
Their faction may decide the exact details of how characters leave and incorporate their exit into their plots if they wish.

Events
2nd-30th September – MIDNIGHT'S DEMISE. The end has come for Circle Midnight, starting with losing their territory in Enfield. Their leader Abigail Widdowson will be captured and exiled, and Guardians will be on the hunt for other Midnight covens to drive out of the city. They have gathered a lot of intelligence on Circle Midnight, helped by the dark magic purge in January, and are well-placed to root them out.

5th September – SCHOOL YEAR BEGINS. Sorry, kids, the holidays are over. New year, new term... maybe even new teachers or classmates. Have fun.

16th September – FULL MOON / THE EXILED.* It's that time of the month for werewolves, but as night falls the captured Midnight witches will be paraded through the site of the traditional Harvest Festival, to be formally cast out by the witches of London. Spectators are allowed, but there is an anti-vampire barrier to prevent any vampires from entering the site without invitation.

22nd September – MABON (AUTUMN EQUINOX). The autumn equinox represents the balance between summer and winter, and thus the Seelie and Unseelie Courts find themselves equally matched. As darkness falls, the Unseelie will muster their forces to drive out the Seelie north of the river. They will succeed and the balance of power in the Other Realm will be reversed – a sign that winter will soon take hold. This is also an important time for witches who are giving thanks for the harvest. It is traditional to invite guests into one's home for a celebratory meal. However, witches who perform dark magic may find a different occupation: the changeover of seasons is the perfect time to summon the fae from either Court, whose power is at an equal but manageable ebb.

25th September – NIGHT'S PARDON. Every so often, the Night Council agrees to offer pardons to convicted or wanted criminals, wiping the slate clean to give them a new start in life. Those asking to be pardoned must be accompanied by a sponsor who is an upstanding member of the community with a clean record. The sponsor will advocate on the part of the condemned, and will be held accountable if the condemned commits another offence. Needless to say, it's unlikely that any pardons will be granted to those in Circle Midnight or the Islington Nest. Nb. The Night Council can only pardon crimes committed in the UK.

*There will be a mod-posted log for these events.

Plots
The following prompts are up for grabs this month:
1) Missing person alert. A shapeshifter has gone missing. They have been kidnapped by a travelling circus. Reward: £600
2) A magical object is discovered which causes dreams to come true. Actual dreams.
3) You kill a witch and are cursed with hallucinations of your loved ones dead and blood on your hands.
4) You discover that you have your own online fan club. They seem very enthusiastic... – Claimed by Autumn

About plots and events
• You may claim one plot prompt per month.
• You can also run your own plots based on the events listed above, or create your own.
• If you claim a plot, then you also volunteer to take the lead OOCly i.e. planning and organizing with other players, deciding on the outcome, setting a timeline etc.
• Once you have claimed a plot, you should introduce it ICly within the next month.
• Plots may not be entirely handwaved. You may handwave some of the plot, but you should play out at least part of it.
• Some plots will require NPCs as well as player characters to fill different roles. Please feel free to make up and play the NPCs yourselves.
• Plots are generally open-ended enough that you can make them big or small. It is up to the player who claims the plot to decide how they would like to handle it. You may want to do open sign-ups for your plot and specify whether there is a limit on how many characters can participate.
• Plots can also be self-contained or form part of an ongoing storyline. Again, it is your choice on how you would like to handle it.
• Please feel free to integrate plots and events or join plots up where appropriate. For example, if you claim a plot that involves a murder, why not choose an event during which the murder could happen? As long as the mod and other players are aware of your plans, I'm happy to accommodate.
Do not ask the mod to explain what the plot is and what your character should do or discover. That is up to you. These plot ideas are just that, ideas, and it is up to you to run with them and decide how and why these events are happening, what your characters are going to do about it, and what the consequences will be.
• You may ask the mod questions pertaining to game mythology, to check that what you are planning to do makes sense within the game world.
This list is not meant to be limiting in any way! Player plots are also very welcome.
• If you have an idea for a player plot, please feel free to comment here and see if there is any interest. Run it by the mod first if you're unsure of anything.

MIDNIGHT'S DEMISE

[personal profile] brightwitch 2016-08-28 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
You will probably not be surprised to learn that Sylvia will be using Abigail's alliance with the Islington Nest as a pretext to getting rid of Circle Midnight once and for all. This will involve a territory claim on Enfield that I would like to take place around 3rd-4th September. The claim will have two objectives: 1) capture Abigail and her key allies; 2) bring Enfield under the jurisdiction of Redbright. I am happy to run this with Sylvia but if anyone else from Redbright would like to take on the territory claim themselves, please let me know asap! Otherwise I'll post the claim tomorrow.

While Circle Midnight are guaranteed to lose whatever happens, that doesn't mean that Redbright are guaranteed to take over the territory. If they win, they will take over the territory as usual. If they face opposition either on Circle Midnight's behalf or due to a counter claim from the East End Pack that results in them losing the claim, the territory will become neutral, disputed, or be won by the East End Pack.

I will be moving over the current Circle Midnight characters to their new factions (Nancy to Islington Nest, Connor to East End Pack) around mid-month to coincide with Abigail's exile.

Questions, suggestions and ideas are welcome! This is still fairly fluid at the moment.

NIGHT'S PARDON

Anyone interested in requesting a pardon from the Night Council? Comment or ask questions here! If there's enough interest I'd be happy to throw up a log for it.

Daryl is the leading cause of death for vampires in Islington

[personal profile] loveconquersdinosaurs 2016-09-02 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
So, I was talking to Daryl and Jean-Claude's mun over plurk about this, but I thought (and they agreed) that the vampire minions who died this round should be among the vampires Daryl has been hunting. However, we wanted to make sure it was okay with the rest of the members of Islington first, so I was wondering if I could get a yay/nay from he rest of Islington?

HOUNSLOW TERRITORY CLAIM

[personal profile] reticence 2016-09-02 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello all!! So basically this is a repeat of what was said in the faction rewards thread but this is of course to be able to plot it!

Hillingdon won the faction reward and we decided to clain Hounslow for Hillingdon! However, this faction will not be won through a regular battle like most other territory claims have been done but rather through a political negotiation. In exchange for the territory of Hounslow, Hillingdon will make a promise to support Redbright should they attempt to take any Islington territory and to defend Redbright should Islington do likewise.

What we were thinking was that the suggestion could come to Faolan from Daryl that Hillingdon really needs more power in the community to fight back the vampire threat and one territory isn't enough. Faolan could then discuss that with his other high-ranking Hillingdon officers (Arthur) before bringing it to the clan at large in an open forum clan meeting sort of a session. From there, he would bring the proposition to Sylvia, and once all the kinks are worked out, there would be a separate section for Hillingdon and Redbright working together -- Redbright showing Hillingdon around since they will be conscripted to help on the vampire front, and Hillingdon probably talking amongst themselves about what a good/bad/terrible/amazing idea they think this all is.

NOW TURNING THE DISCUSSION TO YOU who's in, who in Hillingdon would have thoughts to share at the clan meeting and what would they be, who in Redbright would be willing to be an escort for a Hillingdon -- please let us know in a comment below and let's plot together! c:

Bright Lights, Big City, Smalltown Celebrities - Starting around the 17th and continuing until Oct 6

It has recently come to Daryl's attention that he has a fan club. And so do some of his friends. In fact, the club is all about 'Non-humans I'd Like to F***' or NHILKs for short. It's anonymously run by a couple of Redbright Students with too much time on their hands (Redbright, get your shit together and give them more homework, gawd). The take submissions of clandestinely taken pictures of various Supernatural Hotties and organize them first by Faction and then by rating. The sexier you're considered, the higher on the list you are.

Hillingdon members have seen an increased spike of interest since the Terrritory turn-over and certain members have unexpectantly shot up in the rankings. Like Daryl. Someone followed him back to his job as a mechanic and apparently someone finds this dirty man attractive. Enough that he's gone from almost unknown to spot #7. Right behind Faolan (sorry Faolan, you aren't the sexiest person in Hillingdon).

Daryl, personally, isn't happy with this shit and unfortunately, the kids taking pictures have decided to get a lot bolder with their antics. More open. More obvious. With Circle Midnight's demise more and more of the younger (and sometimes older) supernatural community have decided to do some supernatural stalking of their own to increase the ratings of their favorite NHILFs.

Like you.

Theses guys can be found increasing their obvious presence and even unintentionally hindering their favorites in both everyday life and actual business needs. This will continue until the semester gets to the point they can't keep half-assing their school work to play paparazzi in early October. But until then, they'll be around interrupting and interfering and obnoxiously, literally, rating your ass in comparison to others.

I'll put a general party-style log up for anyone wanting to play out the stupidity of it all later in the month. But feel free to have your characters do stuff outside of the log, too. I can play an obnoxious generic fan for a few posts if you'd like an interruption, as well.

MABON

[personal profile] falsify 2016-09-11 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
so I've been thinking about this on and off, waffling as one does, which is why I haven't put anything up sooner, but!

As the Lord of Autumn, it's kind of Eames' job to help usher in the changeover, isn't it? Festivities, merriment, all sorts of decadent fun to hide how much he hates this fucking job. In what might be an unusual choice for a fae party, Eames has been very staunch about how there's to be no hunts this time because they're just so boring. "Let's steal a pretty human and show them to the queen hurr hurr" great Aloysius is it gonna be a blonde or a redhead this time you colossally uninteresting prick.

So, from the evening of the 17th to the morning of the 18th, they'll be taking over Crystal Palace Park. With glittery displays, huge amounts of food and wine fit for a feast. There'll probably be a celidh and everything, who the hell knows.

It's open invite, but any vampire who comes has to bring a "sponsor" with — a court fae or anoyone otherwise trusted by the courts — and if the vampire breaks the rules then they both get punished. Your gracious hosts are also very clear that the consumption of blood or the harming of guests comes with a penalty of death. You wanna throw down? You duel fuckin' old school style. Don't worry, they have swords.

(They take hospitality rules very seriously)

Being that this is a fae party in fae territory, there are of course a lot of doors open all over the park. And whilst you don't harm a guest in your care, that doesn't exactly stop one from luring someone into the other realm for keepsies or trying to talk them into a deal.

But, yes. That's the short of it, and if that all sounds good? I'll put up a log during the week for y'all to party like it's 1753.
