Game Updates: January 2016

Evening all! Well, it's been six months if you can believe it since the last major round of game updates. Following on from the last state of the game post, I've made a number of changes based on your suggestions and ideas.

This post is a summary of all the updates. These changes are effective immediately. If you're unsure about how these updates will affect your character, please feel free to check with me.

CR Planning
There will now be a dedicated thread for CR planning included in the monthly plotting post, so that you can plot and look for CR all in the same place.

Guidance for territory claims
The Territories page has been updated to include rules for signing up to a territory claim and improved guidelines for leading a claim.

The aim is to clarify expectations around territory claims, namely that:

• Players who sign up to a claim are signing up to actively participate.
• Players who lead a claim ultimately get to decide how the claim happens.
• It is recommended that the lead player posts an event log for the claim.

Powers and Abilities
To sum up: there are new powers, there are more ways to get them, and it's easier to get them. Win-win-win, am I right?

New powers!
• Witches can recruit other characters as familiars! Familiars can be fae, shapeshifters or werewolves.
Witches, vampires and werewolves have new additional abilities. These must be requested as an activity reward.

New ways to get powers!
The following has been added to the Powers page:

• For every three plots you lead with a supernatural character, you can request a new ability or a stat boost, depending on the type you play. This will cost 6 points.
• For every three plots you lead with a human character, you can request one free reward (i.e. you don't need to spend any activity points).
• You can request a stat boost if you recruit or become a familiar.

This gives all characters an alternative way to gain additional abilities without having to level up. Advancing through the ranks still allows you to gain new powers, but now you can also do it through leading plots.

You may request one reward retroactively using this mechanism i.e. if you have led 3 or more plots with one character during your time in the game, you can request a reward. If you have only led one or two plots, you can count them towards claiming this reward in the future. Please link to the IC posts for these plots when you make the request so that I can check them off.

Changes to criteria for gaining powers
Basically, it's easier and there are more. Here's the list:

Fae and witches can request an extra stat boost when they increase their level.
• It's easier for ghosts to increase their magic and they can request new abilities as soon as they gain a player character anchor.
Meta humans can request an extra stat boost and ability when they increase their level.
• After learning their first fae-granted ability, shapeshifters can request a +1 magic boost.
Vampires and werewolves require fewer nest/pack members to increase their magic and strength respectively.
• For every 10 members of their pack, werewolves can request a +1 strength boost. (NPCs are included in this number.)

Question:

If I don't use my retroactive reward this AC do I lose it? (since I am assuming it still costs 6 points!)

Okay!

Also, am I right in assuming for witches it basically lets them pick an additional ability so they can have 3+ rather than the normal limit of two from the list?

(Mostly I am weighing up if it's worth using for Norrell; since I haven't spent for any additional abilities at all yet and I think there's only one I really might want)
