Contribute items to the Night Auction!
The Night Auction is coming up this weekend! In this post you will have the opportunity to suggest items that could be up for sale, volunteer your character to receive an item at the auction, and find out how this will all work in the game.
About the auction
Taking place at an auction house in Knightsbridge, the Night Auction is exactly what it sounds like: a supernatural auction open only to those who know of its existence. Bidding opens at midnight and ends when all items have been sold or the sun comes up, whichever comes sooner. What do they sell? To put it bluntly: items that once belonged to the deceased. The Night Council confiscate a large amount of property to prevent it from falling into human hands. This is just their way of making a profit on it.
The items in the auction will therefore have previously belonged to dead characters. Some of them you may recognize. Others will be new, which is where you come in...
Contribute items
Yep, I'd love to get item contributions from you! If (and only if) you suggest one or more items to add to the auction, you can also volunteer one or more of your characters to receive an item. This means that they are ICly guaranteed to successfully bid on it at the auction. You can contribute items whether or not you intend to ICly take part! The receiving an item part is an optional incentive.
What sort of items will be up for auction?
Almost anything! Items range from small personal possessions (e.g. jewellery, watches, keepsakes, spellbooks) to much larger property (e.g. furniture, houses, vehicles). The only thing the items have in common is that they once belonged to supernatural people. Many items, but by no means all, are magical in nature. Some of them will be highly unusual or just plain weird. They are all things that the Night Council either wouldn't want falling into human hands, or don't have a use for themselves but want to make a profit on.
Because the items are so varied, the costs are also extremely varied. Bidding could start for as little as £5 or as high as a million, depending on what is for sale. So whatever your character's budget, there's bound to be something in their price range.
Submitting items
When you submit an item, the only rule is that it must not already be on the Magical Items list. You can submit a new type of magical item which will later be added to that list, but not something that is already on there.
Go here to contribute your item ideas! Comments to the post are screened, to keep everything a surprise. You have until Friday, 16th October 20:00 GMT+1 to add new items.
Bidding on items
The auction log will be posted shortly before midnight on Saturday, 17th October. Items that have already been reserved for specific characters will be listed. There will also be some items that are not reserved, and you can ICly bid on these in real-time. That is, from midnight until 07:29 GMT+1 18th October*, you can tag into any of the unreserved items on offer and bid on them. The last highest bid in the thread at the point when the auction has closed will win the item.
If no one bids on an item, it will go to Sylvia. She looks forward to adding to her collection.
*I will post a comment to the log officially opening the auction for bidding at midnight, but I won't be getting up early on Sunday morning to officially close it. You can assume that the auction will close at the specified time.
